It also sounds like Ian and Phil will be letting bygons be bygons from that interview with Adam.

Oh well, whatever happens, it should be interesting to see how the writers will tackle it and whether Ian and Phil make amends, albeit begrudgingly.

BTW, has Ian left Bobby by the swings and forgotten all about him?

Gillian talyforth might never want to go back to eastenders but its still pretty pointless to kill her off for the sake of bringing in a 9 or 10 yr old character who'll probably be involved in the custody battle then go upstairs in the vic and not be seen for 6 yrs (a la tracey in corrie).

Personally i hate the characters of phil and ian and am not looking forward to a major plot involving their petty rivalry again, they hate each other we get it

Everywhere i go i always end up hearing why is Ben's step-dad not looking after him. Well hear it is.

Spoiler
Jane gets a phone call from south africa it is Kathy's sister in law she says that kathy has been killed in a car acident and her fella died aswel

So not really much chance of him looking after ben then is there

Well I'm glad she's being killed off because I always thought the character was boring and given too much screen time. At least she can't come back now.

This is a rediculous storyline. Kathy hated phil and moved half-way across the world to get away from him. I feel sure that in a realistic world she would have made a will specifying who would look after Ben If this ever arised.

Don't forget about Michelle Fowler, she is another character from episode 1 who is still alive

I would love if somebody returned after 20 years, even for only a short time. Like Guizin

This just begs the question - why?

It seems to now be a trademark of EastEnders to gladly kill-off characters who are no longer in the serial for the justification of storyline. I only hope that the EastEnders big wigs have thought long and hard about this, because it seems absurd to kill off Kathy simply to substantiate a return for Ben.

Kathy is a titan of EastEnders history and it is such a shame to see her snuffed-out for such feeble means.

If they wanted to give phil a child, couldnt they have killed Lisa off instead? that way he could have louise back. Or maybe he could have just been surrogate father to sharons new child.

I think that its stupid to kill off original cast members on a whim.

Corrie would never treat its long time cast members like this. I know that Kathy isnt on screen at the moment, but she has always said she wanted to come back, and she denies being asked back before now (except for Ian's wedding with Mel, and she came back for that anyway).

Nothing we can do about it now though I guess. Its a shame the people in charge dont listen to public opinion more.

You obviously have yet to be referred to Coronation Street history, Item 324, Section 24 - Thou shalt not sell your stories else thou willst be promptly killed-off

This happened most famously with Peter Adamson (Len Fairclough) and Lynne Perrie (Ivy Tilsley/Brennan) when their characters were swiftly snuffed out after the actors spoke-out about their time on the Street.

However I don't think that Coronation Street would kill off an extremely popular character from its past simply to justify a storyline for others.

Must be before my time. I remember Ivy though.i always thought she got the chop because of her collagen lip implants, lol. she looked horrendous.

What were they both slating corrie for? I'm surprised they havent killed Bet Lynch off yet then. She has been less than complementary about corrie since her failed return.

That was part of it, Lynne Perrie was initially sacked because part of the contract is that actors aren't allowed to drastically change their appearance (obviously). Ivy was written out in 1994 when she went to live at a "religious retreat". The character of Ivy was killed off in mid-1995, after Lynne released a book "Secrets of the Street" and was famously quoted as saying "Granada might have gagged all of my mates in The Street but they are not going to gag me"

Peter Adamson, who played Len Fairclough sold stories to The Sun about fellow cast members in 1983 and was suspended from his contract. After that Adamson was involved in a child-abuse scandal. Granada released him from his contract so that Adamson could concentrate on his defence, and always expected to return to the show as Len. It was later revealed that he had sold further stories to the tabloids and by the end of 1983, Len had been killed-off.

I don't think there is even going to be a proper send-off for Kathy after her death. From spoilers I read for February and early March there is no mention of Kathy's funeral. How disappointing

sounds like they deserved it then. How stupid to bite the hands that feeds you. Especially in the case of Len, who had a second chance and ruined that too.

Anyway, i can kind of see why these two were killed off screen because of their behaviour, but Eastenders seems to do it to their characters without reason.

I read that Pete Beale was disposed of off screen because the other cast members (especially gillian taylforth) didnt like him. I remember thinking that was a pathetic reason to get rid of an original cast member. With such a low impact storyline too. It seemed to serve no point whatsoever. I feel the same way aboout Kathy's death now and Cindy's beforehand.
