Hdrw 720

Hey all, I don't know I've anyone has already talked about this problem, I can't seem to find it any way.

I recently bought a Philips HDRW720 dvd recorder. I set it up as follows :

TV OUT from digibox -> EXT.2
EXT.1 -> TV AV1

I tuned the Digibow into channel 9. It recorded perfectly for about, a week or so, and then , just recorded black screens from channel 9 (sky). We tried multiple recordings, only the ones that were due to record 2 mins after setting worked. We took it back to the shop, and all they did was update it, and reinitialise the system !!! Got it back, it still recorded black screens. So i changed every thing round at the back .

VCR OUT from DigiBox -> EXT.2 and same as b4 after

Now i can't seem to tune the decoder into channel 9 (just a black screen now), so I have to use the EXT.2 channel, not the end of the world, but it was simpler b4. It now seems to work, but does anybody know y it didn't work b4 ???

As well, the sat record function doesn't work (ami doing something wrong ???)

Also (i do go on !! lol) I live in france, and get UK TV trough FreeSat. So can I still use the guide plus fonction ,seeing as the french host channel is CANAL+, I mean, will I still get english listing if i set the machine up as for it to think that I live in the UK ???

Sorry it's so long, it's just tha nothing on this machine seems to work propaly, or mayB it's just me !!! lol

Thanks for your help !!!

You should be recording via scart lead (EXT) - not by R/F lead (Channel 9)

There is nothing simpler - provided you tell the HDR720 that your tuner is on EXT (1/2/whatever), it will record from that scart & change the tuner to the correct channel at the right time - it doesn't get easier than that

I was recording by scart (sorry didn't say) but it is possible to tune a decoder into a channel, by going into systeme menu, then, er, manuel tune !

It's working atm, that's te most important ... but I still can't get the guide plus fonction to work !!! lol

Thanks for the advice though !!!

I think the 720 get its guide+ listings from analogue ITV through the aerial cable|) or from digital eurosport. It also wants to be left on standby from time to time for then guide+ download to happen.

Ive got a HRW720/05 too and find it fine - generally speaking. However, every now and again it seems to get its knickers in a twist with regards to the tv guide/recording...

On occasion when you select a program to record from the EPG it doesn't remember the name of the show, so it just shows up as a channel number & timestamp in the HDD browser (regardless of whether its a terrestrial or sky channel).

Anyone had this problem and got a solution ?(which doesnt involve resetting the entire unit and losing the EPG for a day or two!)

Yep, just turning off at the mains (or pulling the plug out the back) and turning on again fixes it for me when it happens. Everything is retained - recordings, timer settings, EPG etc.

i fix it by restting the channel source - switch it from ext>tuner>ext or vice versa

I'll try that next time it happens. Cheers

One other thing which i've noticed, but hasn't happened for a while is that the source for bbc1 & bbc2 keeps changing to my sky box (ext).. despite me continually setting it back to 'tuner'... really annoying.

any ideas on that one

To stop the source for bbc1 and bbc2 changing all the time you can do the following:
1. Change the desired channel's source to tuner
2. Press green to enter the program number
3. Re-Enter the program number i.e. 1 for bbc1
4. Press OK to confirm

Everything should be fine after this.
