I imagine that Coldplay would have got to number one in the Summer had it not been for the frog, they are pretty popular.

Agreed about Coldplay. Unless depressing equals great. I like Coldplay's music, its just the whining of Chris MArtin over the top that makes me want to heave!

Unless the charts become 'music to put you to sleep' then I fear they will never make it to #1.
On a serious note does anyone take any notice of the single chart these days or is the album chart more important now?

I always watch the singles chart as I think it shows new up-and-coming artists who haven't properly developed. Albums is probably MORE important because they're the ones people tend to buy.

Have the Foo Fighters ever been to number 1? I don't believe so, and I don't believe they ever will, which is a crime.

Mind you, I always thought the Stereophonics never would, then they did with Dakota, so I could be wrong!

Depeche Mode must be one of the greatest bands never to have a number one single.

They have been going for about 25 years and thier best chart position is number 4, I think.

Trivium
Fear Factory
Cradle of Filth

just a selection of bands highly unlikely to reach the hallowed spot...

Stereophonics, number 1 with Dakota (as mentioned above) 12/3/05.

They've done it once, so out of those posted I think they're definitely more likely to do so again

I'm sceptical that Franz Ferdinand will ever score a No 1 single - they had a fighting chance with Do You Want To but they were scuppered by the Pussycat Dolls! Still, it's early days for them I guess....

Having a No.1 single doesn't mean you're any good.

I believe that great bands are measured by their album sales as not so many of the under 10's buy them.

Hopefully Radiohead or the Foos will never have a No.1 single as they're far too good for that.

Can't see any argument there Tel. My comment about it being a crime is more focused on the fact that the charts these days are indeed hijacked by the under 10's and thus usually equate to garbage

the thing that gets me though is that everyone harps on about the bloody arctic monkeys being the "band of the moment"

i think people listen to them BECAUSE they are the band of the moment not cos they like them,

i dont

oh got more that wont make it

Strapping Young Lad
Dragonforce
Jamie Cullum (cos hes too complicated for today's yoof)

was going to say that - surely they must have had albums go in at number one though??

lets see..

Tool
Radiohead

this is difficult... most bands I like have split up!

I don't get this thread. 99.9% of bands won't get to number 1. We could be here all day listing them .
