How do the panel and the public votes get combined to calculate the winners?

I'm guessing it works the same as SCD did. But the BBC were a lot clearer on it and actually explained. I think ITV should too.

and there seems considerably more scope for mistakes on DOI than there was on SCD...

It doesn't really matter. If the public have any say in the result then the results are going to be flawed. If Hitler was the perfect ice dancer, would he win? Nope.

THE PUBLIC VOTE

Some vote for the best performance on the night.

Some have turned it into a popularity contest

Some vote out of sympathy - the performance may have been rubbish but Jasons' insulting comparisons can be guaranteed to bring in the votes!

Oh and reminding the viewers of a couple of gold medals helps!

The judges rank the couples 1- however many in the comp that week by awarding their marks. You have one couple with perhaps 21 points and the last couple with 17 points. If there are 5 couples then the couple with the highest score will get 5 points descending to the couple with the lowest score getting one point.

The public vote for their favourites and the couple with the most votes get 5 points descending to the couple with the least votes who get 1 point.

The two points scores are then totalled to give an overall score.

For Example..... A B C D and E are the competitors

The judges award marks thus.... C = 25.5
A = 21.5
E = 18
D = 17.5
B = 17.

C gets 5 points
A gets 4 points
E gets 3 points
D gets 2 points
B gets 1 point.

The phone votes show that.... B got 32,500 votes
A got 28,000 votes
C got 22,800 votes
E got 19,000 votes
D got 2,000 votes

B gets 5 points
A gets 4 points
C gets 3 points
E gets 2 points
D gets 1 point

Add the two lots of points together and Bob's your Uncle..

C has 8 points
A has 8 points
E has 5 points
D has 3 points
B has 6 points.

With the least points D and E are in the bottom 2 and face the judges decision.

Sorry if it's longwinded but I hope it helps...

Oh, I thought this was correct as I heard them talking about it on one of the extra shows. Sorry If I have it wrong it just seemed to be the same as SCD.

Well it's clear that whatever the mechanics are they've been pretty flawed!

that is half the problem....after the last 2 weeks we are all wanting answers to how it works but itv is resolutely saying nothing....no doubt from their viewpoint any doubt may make people vote more often to save their favourite so more money for them....personally makes me less likely to even watch and i certainly won't be wasting any money

I'm Only going by what they explained on the Itv 2 show which sounded exactly like SCD voting.

what they didn't explains is this;

two skaters could get the same number of points. e.g.

skater A gets 3 points from the judges and 2 from the public - a total of 5.

skater B gets 2 from the judges and 3 from the public- a total of 5.

Which vote takes priority and keeps the individual out of the skate off?

If it;s the same as SCD it would be the one with the highest amount of telephone votes.

But we've never been told if it's the same as SCD.

Hate to be suspicious but does this give them carte blanche change the criteria week by week.

It was explained on one of the extra shows at the beginning of the series and is just the same as SCD. At least the explanation sounded identical so it makes sense that this is the way they are doing it.

It was also explained on DOI Extra today they said that heaps of people had been emailing to find out how the voting works and they explained it just like Superfan did but theirs was a slightly shorter version.

I knew that the judges and public points were added together, but I was waiting for them to confirm that the public vote took priority but it wasn't mentioned; I played the video back to make sure I hadn't missed it but no. It's crucial that the viewers know exactly why an individual is competing in the skate off.

Yip I did get a bit carried away didn't I????

I was just trying to be thorough as it's difficult sometimes to explain things in text and much quicker verbally...

I understand the voting system but don't know what the top score from the judges can be - is it 6.0 ??? I just saw a 5.5 for the first time and previously thought it was 5.0.

Duh - not sure if this was mentioned at any other point on the show.....

You never know...

Nicky: "I liked the force of the performance. You know where you're going on the ice. I save Adolf"

Natalia: something violent and aggressive in Russian. "I save Ulrika"

Jason: "You know you really must stop that thing where you thump your chest with your forearms, it adds nothing to the performance. I save Ulrika"

Karen: (crying) "This is all too much. I love you all. You're like my babies. I save Adolf"

Robin: "I thought use of props was good. I've never seen a Luger used like that in an ice dance routine before. I Save Adolf"

Adolf is saved.
