The Bill: Ramani De Costa Appreciation Thread
In light of her departure, here's a thread to mourn the loss of one The Bill's best characters in recent years.
But don't make it all doom and gloom - let's look back on her years at Sun Hill, remembering the best bits: how she arrived as a common DC, only to take charge of CSU as a DS. Long may Ramani be remembered as an excellent character, played by the outstanding Thusitha Jayasundera

As well as being a fully-rounded and thoroughly believable character, Ramani was also unique and intelligent as a copper. She was also superbly acted by Thusitha Jayasundera, who has a very natural acting ability.
DS Ramani De Costa has been, by some measure, one of the best characters to arrive in the show over the last few years, and Thusitha's departure comes as a big loss to the show. For long shall she be remembered, and all the best to Thusitha who I hope will go on to lead a successful career. |

I wonder if Thusitha knows how popular she is with the fanbase of The Bill. I hope she knows it.
Ramani has to be one of PM's finest creations, and it's a real blow to the show that she's leaving. Ramani is a career-focused, caring and believable copper, and I really enjoy her presence onscreen. Her relationship with Terry is also quite special. *appreciates Ramani* *appreciates Thusitha* |

I will be very sad to see Ramani De Costa leave, she one of the best characters in the show at the moment. She showed how much great potential she had, in the Brilliant magaret/ramani story-line. I love her realationship with terry (they suit). Thusita is a very convincing, great actress.

Well where to start, lets start with Ramani.
Ramani De Costa a shining example of a DS. Her natural intelligence and the ability to make most like her enables victims of crime to feel able to tell her whats happened. She's a caring woman who gets on with all of Sun Hill, especially Terry. Her and Terry make such a great team and it's going to be such a shame to see Terry working without her Ramani has inspired my career choice so basically has affected the rest of my life for the better ![]() Thusitha is a lovely, kind, beautfiul and highly talented actress. She acts naturally and Ramani comes across in such a natural way. She is brilliant in every scene and for me makes The Bill. What more can I say she's my role model and an all round lovely woman! I'll miss them both so much and I hope to see Thusitha on my tv screen very soon! *Gets a bit emotional* I'll end it here... Bye bye Ramani xx |

There's no need to go to such extreme lengths - hang around here where we can look back on her storylines

My favourite was Margaret Barnes storyline, it developed nicely and really was brilliantly acted.

I've got it all on VHS, hoping to find somewhere that will put them onto DVD, although doubt I will.

For me, De Costa will be one of the most unique characters that has ever appeared on TB.
Sun Hill will lose one of its finest when Ramani and Thusitha say goodbye. A very hard act to follow... |

It will be impossible to replace such a good actress who puts so much depth into her character which makes Ramani one of the most caring coppers Sun Hill has ever seen

I am really disappointed to see Ramani leaving. She is one of the best characters on the show, played by a tremendous actress. There is so much 'dead wood', particularly some of the younger PCs - who are not remotely interesting. Let's hope she does a 'Mickey Webb' and reappears in a year or two. Farewell to a great character.

Well im hoping she will return in a couple of years as DI Ramani Perkins! They are meant to be together! She had so much depth to her character, which many other characters do not. She cared about everyone and everything, and was dedicated to what she did!
Good luck to Thusitha! |

This just goes to show what a fanbase she has... I know everyone has their faves, but most people seem to agree that Ramani/Thusitha are great.

Ramani De Costa brought a breath of, much needed, fresh air into Sun Hill. Her wit, charisma and lust for her job make her the outstanding and much loved character she is. I especially enjoyed her humor and her 'organised mess'. Ramani and Terry had a great amount of quality chemistry that, I’m sure will be much missed by everyone who watches The Bill. She was, in my opinion, one of the best characters ever to pass my TV screen and was a true credit to The Bill.
Thusitha has an amazing presence on screen; every action is done with thought and ease creating a natural and believable atmosphere. She is original and does, by no means, conform to that of materialized actors, she remains true to herself and that reflects in her work. I also hope to see her soon and wish her all the best for the future..... You'll be greatly missed Thusitha if your out there. Good luck and goodbye! Xxxx *joins in raising glass* |
