No because then they would shift Corrie out of it's 45-year-old home.

That would be nice, but aren't you being slightly optimistic? Emmerdale got like a 30 minute headstart lol

Emmerdale hour-specials are almost always 100% worthwhile and I hope they continue them...I just wish they didn't clash...which is possible...

I'm sick of these threads raking over the same old ground.

How, without disrupting Corrie?

EE = 7.43m
Edale = 8.19m”

It all depends on when they were recorded as the overnight data which looked at EastEnders and the second half an hour of Emmerdale as a whole suggested that what I said in my post was the case.

Well if they could do it back in 2001 then they could do it again. It's not like it would be happening regularly is it?

Yes but then what about The Bill? it's not as simple as moving the schedules around

But 16.9 for any show, let alone EE is, we'll never get those figures back.

Disrupt The Bill instead

By the way, Emmerdale showed an hour special at 8pm in 2002 on a TUESDAY. It gave them their highest ratings for a long while I think, and they haven't beaten them since (over 12 million I believe).

It was Marlon and Tricia's non-wedding incidentally, Emmerdale's 30th anniversary, the 7pm episode was still there that day AND it got all the magazine covers...

I'm amazed Emmerdale gets this kind of viewership. I thought it was basically a head to head between Corrie and EE and all other soaps came a long way behind....

Mind you I haven't got around to it since Jackie Merrick was alive.. I don't really *get* it tbh

Emmerdale won overall in the last head to heard as far as I can remember, but during the second half EE did overtake it, but not enough to affect the overall ratings.

I'm still not seeing how you can do that without annoying either EE or Corrie or moving Emmerdale from 7pm

They've disrupted the schedule before so I don't see why they can't do it again.

Well Edale won in the end didn't they?

Yes but they obviously aren't going to move shows around unnecessarily... are they?

I'm talking about on a Wednesday and EastEnders isn't on on a Wednesday.

But ITV usually like Corrie to have a lead in from Emmerdale.

How do you work that out? In the BARB data yes but when you look at the data as a whole then EastEnders overtook them slightly.

They could move The Bill to 9pm instead of showing a drama, or they could split an Emmerdale hour special in two and put the second half on at 8pm, which only puts The Bill back half an hour.

On a Tuesday it would only clash with Holby, which is better than EE. It worked in the past with the Marlon/Tricia wedding.

Friday 8.30 slot is also free.

We've been over this so many times, I think all it proves really is that there's far too much soap on TV and it dominates the schedule so there's no free spaces

Exactly and ITV don't want to move Corrie on a Wednesday to make way for hour long Emmerdale's, especially if it's just for the sake of helping the rival network
They will favour keeping Corrie and The Bill stable in their 7.30 and 8.00 slots over keeping the BBC happy

Corrie will still have a lead in from Emmerdale because everything just moves back half an hour (I'm talking about this as if it were on a Wednesday by the way).
