Hollyoaks probably or possibly Doctors but I think that does quite well for its time slot.

It wont be Hollyoaks i dont think mainley because it is on a bit of a hight. I think that if any soap should go right now it should be something like Eastenders.

I am a fan but i would love them to stop showing it for 6 months have a complete re-write of all the scripts then bring it back all fresh and like it used to be because it has lost its grip ( in my opinion )

there isn't any soap in danger of being axed at the moment cos they are doing fine in the ratings. Channel 4 wouldn't get rid of Hollyoaks as that is still popular and the only soap they have at the moment.

Doctors is garbage, but looks really cheap to make so it'll probably run for 20 years.

If not that, then Hollyoaks; it really is poor.

Coronation Street, EastEnders and Emmerdale won't be going anywhere any time soon.

i watch all of the soaps but not doctors as it's crap so i should think that should go and corrie as well as it's been boring lately. i do still watch corrie though, the best soaps are:

Neighbours
home and away
Hollyoaks
emmerdale
eastenders
the bill
casualty

Well they wont re-write the history but you can see that there are plenty more deaths on there way i wish they could just re-write them scripts.

Beat me to it, and it's not the first time either.

I think at the moment, all the soaps are fine, EastEnders, Corrie and Emmerdale certainly are here to stay for a long time yet. If I was hard pressed to pick one it would be Hollyoaks, but I can't see that happening somehow, Channel 4 seem to be okay with, and it's consistent in it's timeslot.

But where's the logic in ITV axing their most watched show?

It could be argued that the "Big Three" are invincible entities in British Television. It would take a dramatic social shift for these serial dramas to become so unpopular that they would warrant axing.

I cant see that any station/ channel would end what are still seen to be the most popular television at the moment .. personally I think that a lot of the quality has gone out of them for the amount of episodes that are churned out each week plus any extra/ extended shows that are produced - I dont think they should axe any completely just cut down on the number of weekly episodes. EE has particularly been affected as they have had such a small cast (even Hollyoaks seems to have more people) hence the reason IMO that they have been going off track and making regulars lose interest - hopefully with the promise of new characters & some favourites coming back (Grant, Phil, Sharon) they will be able to get back to where they were before, alternatively cut number of shows a week.

Very true.

The GBP are notoriously stuck in their ways when it comes to viewing.

TV shows here can turn to absolute tripe, and will still get millions of viewers, mainly because the soaps here are very much 'habit TV'. They're always on in the background.

While I'm pleased that the networks here aren't quite as callous as those in the US or Australia when it comes to ratings, I do wish the public would vote with their remote and change their habits when soaps get bad, if only to give the program makers a bit of a kick up the bum.

I only watch Corrie, Emmerdale and Eastenders and I do not think any of these will be axed in the forseeable future.

However, I do agree that these 3 long running soaps all have their good patches and bad ones. Corrie had a bad patch but I think recently they are comming back well with very strong storylines using old established characters such as Emily and Rita.

Hollyoaks and Doctors aren't really "big" soaps though.

I think that out of the three major soaps in this country we're most likely going to lose an ITV one before we lose EastEnders but I really don't want to see any of them go so I wouldn't like to say which one other than I have a feeling one of them will go before EastEnders does.

That's perfectly true, at the end of it all ITV has its commercial interestes whereas the BBC is ever subsidised by us. I remember a couple of years ago when EastEnders was in real trouble, it was often said that the BBC would never axe it because as long as they are fulfilling the requirements of their charter they have no real reason to threaten a programme with the axe.

Depends what we mean when we talk about "big" - amount of viewers and awards won each year, I'm guessing?

Even still, I predict Hollyoaks is very safe.

It consistently pulls in the viewers on C4 and more importantly gets lots of people turning over to E4 for the First look episodes. The figures for these have been very high recently

Hopefully it's onward and upward after a fantastic week of late night specials this week.

Doctors is a day-time tv show and they are only a conspiracy by the the Government to get the unemployed back to work so I can't see that being axed. The axe is most likely to fall on Hollyoaks as it does not big ratings. I can't see this happening though as it is not aimed at a mainstream audience.
