I feel very sorry for Emily being unable to forgive Ed.

I feel less sorry for Ed. He may be trully repentent but his motives for involving Emily and seeking her forgiveness are totally selfish.

I think if I were in the same situation as Emily I don't think I would be able to forgive him either however I'm sure god will forgive him for his crime as he does seem truly repentent.

That's true. Why did he have to involve her. The current situation would be that God would forgive Ed but not Emily.

The thing that has made my blood boil, is he knew from the beginning he had every intention of telling Emily, so why get involved with Eileen, If he is such a nice Man he could have waited until all this was out in the open.

Sadly I think Eileen would have accepted he had paid for his crime and would have given him a chance, now however the relationship will not have the foundations to survive.

He felt it would be right to give emily closure for Ernest's death however it has just opened up a new can of worms.

I agree, Eileen will probably feel used, just as Emily does. Even though we knew about Ed and his past he was a likeable character, IMO not now.

They guy had a good plastic surgeon as well.

I have a picture from the 1978 factory raid in an old coronation street book. The guy holding the gun has a curly perm, a different face and in the pic is about 25 years old, which would make him about 53 now. Still its only a soap....

I really feel for Emily, she is in a terrible predicament. Not helped at all by the old gossipy Norris. I don't know if Emily will ever 'get over' seeing her husbands killer facing her - it would have been a huge shock for someone her age - it could make her very ill?

I agree, Norris is not doing much to help matters, shouting his mouth off in The Kabin. That poor woman, the last thing she needs is the whole street knowing her business. I wouldn't like to be in Emily's position, On one hand, should she do what her faith has taught her to do? Or can she just not bring herself to forgive him.

I also agree with Tinalou, about the way Ed handled himself. Instead of coming straight out at the beginning, or even just not getting into a relationship straight away, he decided to get together with Eileen. I also didn't like the fact that he slept with Eileen and then revealing all to Emily straight after. That would make Eileen feel so much worse. It will be interesting to see how this progresses, does Eileen get back with Ed? And more importantly, does Emily forgive?

I know. But on a high note, Sue Cleaver is finally getting a decent storyline.

I agree with you there.

On one hand I feel so sorry for Emily as she lost her husband and the love of her life but on the other hand I feel for Ed because he seemed to be sincere when he was saying sorry, he really does regret it and he's served his time.
On my third, slightly deformed hand I feel sorry for Eileen as she's fallen for Ed yet has to take on her good friend Emily's feelings and will be vilfied by the whole street if she acts on instinct and looks past the whole Emily/Ernest buisness.

Ah, the lovey Freda. Glad she's returning

Does anyone know if it's permanent?

The bottom line is that Ed's relevations were for HIS benefit not Emily's

That's true. But maybe it was something he needed to do, because he was so racked with guilt. But at the end of the day, if he really cared for Emily, he would never have tracked her down. It was for selfish reasons.

Yes, that's for sure. He should have realised the impact his confession would have on Emily, now elderly and frail. He should have kept his mouth shut about it, and gone about being kind and helpful to Emily and the others on the Street, as he has been doing. Big mistake.
