The Sun is today reporting that Coronation Street's Sean Tully is to get his own family. Sean will be stunned when his estranged father turns up on the street later this year. He also comes across an aunt and uncle at a funeral. And his Mum and Brother are also expected to turn up.

Steve Frost said: "Sean's very popular. Viewers are interested enough for his family to be relevant." The new roles have not yet been cast.

What do you guys think of this? I think it's a wonderful idea, it would be great to see his family extended. And didn't he say his family didn't know about his sexuality? So it would be interesting to see how they would react if he came out.

God! More (probably) unnecessary characters!! When will they stop?

And his sexuality is a BIT obvious...

Great idea! I only hope that his family are kept off the street, i.e. that they don't move in part-and-parcel. I think that perhaps the street has become too insular and that the world of Weatherfield is opened up a bit more.

I would like to see the Tully family as a proper bunch of chavtastic chavs! (but nothing like the Battersbys!)

I wouldn't say unnecessary. Unnecessary characters are those who have no links with the street ie. Nathan, the twins etc. But they would have links to the street, with Sean.

Why are they unecessary? They might be the best characters in the world ever!

Wow, the Tully family's gonna be quite big then.

I think this is a great idea.

I'm really looking forward to it! Sean is a brilliant character so I'm expecting his family to be good too. Can't wait for this

I think that's true; although he hasn't been around for a particularly long time, I think he has fitted in well.

I was hoping he'd be in the axe list. Terrible actor/character - too many cast members as it is at the moment.
This will be off-putting to watch for me.

Does anyone have any ideas for the family?

I would like to see them as being a real salt of the earth family, rough as they come and quick to jump to conclusions but who do show true affection.

The mother, in her late 30s/early 40s, obviously having had Sean at a young age, working as a Checkout Girl in Frescho. I percieve that Sean will be the absolute apple of her eye and she will dote on him incessantly, always quick to stick up for her "boy".

The father, quite a bit older than his wife/partner...(perhaps they could be unmarried?) The quiet and uncompromising type, initially giving little away about his character.

Sean's brother, 18/19 years old and unemployed, recently out of prison.

To some extent I would agree with you, I think that certain factors in Sean's life have been badly decided by the writers. I think he should hold only one job - either the Rovers or at the Factory, and I strongly feel that there are huge limitations to what his character can do.

I would much rather see him as a permanent fixture at the Rovers as it's about time that the big wigs at Coronation Street drew upon the force that would inevitably come from having a strong Rovers staff, as they have in the past. I can see Shelley, Sean, Violet and of course Betty making a foursome which could equal the famous grouping of Annie Walker, Bet Lynch, Fred Gee & Betty.

I think this is a good idea definitely so I hope its true. It would give Sean more ties which can only be a good thing in my opinion. It would be interesting to know more about his background too.

I think Sean's been crying out for a family since he first joined so it's about time!

Could be the potential for some great storylines, particularly revolving around his estranged dad as we aleady know they don't get on.

I just hope this is going to be part of a long term plan for Sean and not his usual two episode flash in the pan storylines!

Definitely a good idea - Sean's a really good addition to the Street, he and Eileen are great together. Wonder where they will all live - not at Eileen's surely?

If the Platts really have been axed (which I can't believe) then they should have Phil recreating Hillman's exploits but this time he kills Gail and the kids. He should drive over a huge cliff. Why is it in soaps that people always drive into either shallow ponds or canals? Oh yeah, it's so they survive.

That's the first I've heard about the Platts leaving! I'd love to see the back of David...but as for the rest of them (yes, even Sarah should stay).

Like I've said, I would like Sean's family to stay off the Street, as it's all become so insular in the past 5-10 years. Variety is the spice of life.

That would be a big mistake if they get rid of the Platts I think.
