Boyzone star set for EE,Casualty or Holby?
Boyzone star set for EastEnders
Could Stephen Gately be heading for Albert Square? The singer has set tongues wagging by revealing he’s been offered a bumper deal after a secret audition with a BBC soap. And although he’s yet to sign a contract, there are strong rumours the 29-year-old will join EastEnders. The Boyzone star will be following in the footsteps of bandmate Keith Duffy, who made a surprisingly efficient fist of oafish Oirish hunk Ciaran McCarthy in Coronation Street. Stephen told the Daily Star on Sunday: “I did the audition last week but I think it would be really unlucky to say which BBC soap until I sign a contract. I’ve been waiting for an opportunity like this since Boyzone split up. Of course Keith is a great guy to talk to about this since his success in Coronation Street. He’s always been very supportive of me.” Although the part could also be in the hospital dramas Casualty or Holby City, insiders say EastEnders is hot favourite. We do hope so – Steven could certainly give Phil Mitchell a run for his money in the hardman stakes. Hmm... then again, maybe not. I really hope this is not EastEnders.

He's actually a good actor, but this apparently isn't true. The Eastenders part anyway.

I can't see him in Eastenders. The guy has ITV written all over him.

I heard about this over 2 weeks ago! I don't think it's Eastenders either. Besides, they've had enough new cast members recently. Anyway, it might be Doctors. That's a soap on BBC1.
And he's not a bad actor, actually. He'd probably be better known as an actor now if Boyzone hadn't come along, if truth be told. Strawbs |

![]() He played Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat on tour. He played Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat in the West End. He played the Childcatcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in the West End. He was the guest actor in The Play What I Wrote for a couple of performances. He played Dandini in Cinderella in Bromley. He will be playing the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz in Canterbury in April. He presented the Childline concert in Dublin a couple of weeks ago. He's made various public appearances and TV appearances etc. He s been studying acting in London. He married his partner in Las Vegas. He set up his own TV production company. He seems to ply his trade within the theatre now! Laura xx |

He is a very good actor and far better than Gus, Deano or Carly to name but a few in EE.
Mind you I think he is to good EE, he should get a part in Holby playing a lovely gay nurse! |

Considering this thread is nearly a year old, did anything ever come of it? I don't recall seeing him in Holby or EE...

The report must have been false or they didn't like him/he wasn't right for the part.
I'm sorry but Sean Slater????? I really can't see him playing a straight guy who's been a soldier in Iraq. ![]() He looks like a little elf. |

Not at all but he's tiny and feminine. He doesn't fit the character.
We don't know the sexuality of the actor already playing Sean...he could be gay, but he fits the part. |

The thread is a year old EL.
Mean't to add to my post that some of the most well known actors in the world are/were gay men playing straight so why on earth would I say gays should only play homosexual roles. I just mean't that in my opinion Stephen Gately doesn't fit with the character of Sean Slater...not that a gay man couldn't play the part. Last edited by Rysen : 29-01-2007 at 22:14. |

I think I got the wrong end of the stick.I actually think Stephen would be good in one of the said soaps! |
