£110 BT wanted to charge me for changing the phone scocket in my bedroom to the main line. Heres part of the email I got from them.
With regards to your second query, I must advise there would be a charge to
convert the extension socket in your bedroom to your remaining line.
In order to have one extension socket converted to your remaining line by a BT
engineer you would incur total charges of 110.46 GBP (Inc. VAT). This charge for
converting the extension is 45.83GBP (Inc. VAT) and the visit charge for the
engineer is 64.63GBP (Inc. VAT). These are fixed prices taking into account the
average travelling and fitting time associated with the job. A set charge has
been calculated so that all of our customers are charged the same, regardless of
where they live - whether in a rural or urban location. This ensures that
charges are applied with greater consistency for all our customers.
Please note:
Extension sockets and wiring are sold by BT as apparatus. They have a 12-month
guarantee. After this date the socket and wiring becomes your own and BT does
not maintain it.
If a fault occurs within the 12-month guarantee, the guarantee card, which the
engineer will leave you, will be your proof of purchase.
Please note the charges quoted above are just for a BT engineer to convert the
extension socket. You can arrange to have a local electrician carry out the
work for you.
Should you wish to book a BT engineer to carry out the work please reply to this
email and I will be happy to assist you further.
Alternatively to book an engineer appointment you can call 0800 800 150 (open
8am to 8pm Mon-Sat) .
