At least we'll have "UP" (UKTV People) and "IP" (ITV Play). At least we're not totally discriminatory.

In my world, SA = Sad Athlete. The saddest athlete was 'Marathon', a man who ran and ran to Athens (to bring news of a victory) and then died. SA (Star Attraction), has brought us news of his miraculous TV channel coding system, but, unfortunately, no-one is interested. He has not brought important news. He has introduced us to a TV channel coding system that no-one is interested in (I reinforce my point at this juncture). It has run and run (like Marathon), but, unfortunately, I think this thread has run its' course (and failed). You haven't died, but your idea has!

Unfortunately, SA (Star Attraction (NOT Sad Athlete!)), you did not bring good news. You are not dead, (hopefully!), but your news was not not good. If you had approached Athens (or indeed completed 'The London Marathon') with news of your 'Brand new TV Channel Coding System', I would fear for your safety. Those final 385 yards would probably be hell!

What a lot of Discovery channels there are now on Sky Digital.

There's the original Discovery Channel. It's channel 520 on Sky. Also it's available on NTL 212, Telewest 212, and Top-up TV channel 27. Only right then that it be coded D1.

Discovery have put one other channel from their cluster on Top-Up TV DTT: Discovery Real Time on channel 28. In that case it should be coded D2.

There is also a Discovery Real Time Extra on Sky, but NOT Top-Up TV. Since it's an "extra" version of Discovery Real Time, let's code it D2X.

The other Discovery Channels are only on Sky and cable. They are best coded D followed by a letter. Here is my complete list of Discovery channels.

D1 = Discovery Channel (Sky 520, Top-Up 27)
D2 = Discovery Real Time (Sky 250, Top-Up 28)
D2X = Discovery Real Time Extra (Sky 252)
DA = (Discovery) Animal Planet (Sky 535)
DC = Discovery Civilisation (Sky 522)
DH = Discovery Home and Health (Sky 264)
DHD = Discovery HD (Sky 525)
DK = Discovery Kids (Sky 615)
DS = Discovery Science (Sky 523)
DT = Discovery Travel and Living (Sky 283)
DW = Discovery Wings (Sky 524)

Some of these also have +1 versions. To code these, append +1 to the matching code, e.g.
D1+1 = Discovery+1 (Sky 521)
DA+1 = Animal Planet+1 (Sky 536)

If I want to switch to Sky News I just punch 5 0 1 into the Sky Remote...it is not a conscious action and I don't need to refer to a list. Is it really necessary therefore to assemble a database of TV Channels and their related codes.

Incidentally, if we can't put SA off the habit of coding TV Channels maybe we can divert his energies to Teletext Page Numbers.

[PRBF - Potatoes Roast Boiled First]
[PPP - Peas Petit Pois]
[GO - Gravy Oxo]

Back along I gave you codes for the Television X channels:

X1 = Television X (Sky 903, DTT 97)
X2 = Television X2 (Sky 904, not on DTT)
X3 = Television X3 (Sky 905, not on DTT)

Now there's a fourth Television X channel on Sky: Television X4 (Sky 917). It should therefore be coded X4.

The complete list of the Television X family of channels is now therefore:

X1 = Television X (Sky 903, DTT 97)
X2 = Television X2 (Sky 904, not on DTT)
X3 = Television X3 (Sky 905, not on DTT)
X4 = Television X4 (Sky 917, not on DTT)

There are two God channels on Sky

760 GOD Channel
761 GOD UK

Does anyone know the viewing figures for these? I bet they are quite low. Surely these channels are minority viewing, are they not?

Here are my codes for these two channels:
G1 = GOD Channel (Sky 760)
G2 = GOD UK (Sky 761)

Well I can translate this request no sweat:

"Sorry Mum, no BBC News 24 for you tonight, Wild Fishing with Henry is on Discovery Real Time+1"

By the way, on B6 this evening, they had the bedtime story and then went straight to the green "Night Night" slide. They omitted The Goodnight Song - the lullaby they normally sing between the bedtime story and "Night Night" slide. Presumably B6 were running late this evening.

Having watched that, I switched to B7 and saw the weather. Now the news is on B7.

And actually no I dont have anything better to do, quite hard to do stuff when you've snapped your leg in half and it will take about 2 or 3 months to heal.

Correction, ITV Play is actually I6. The full set of ITV codes is:

I1 = ITV1
I2 = ITV2
I3 = ITV3
I4 = ITV4
I5 = CITV
I6 = ITV Play

Rather than internet trolling, try doing something creative and entertaining like Star Attraction has, your time could be much better spent.

Good idea! How about IDX for 100, NWS for 101, SPT for 300, LOT for 555...

Or just go out.

Have you lot still not grasped the logic to my coding system. Effectively each channel code is really made up of TWO codes:

Broadcaster code + channel code.

So far, I have devised broadcaster codes for nine broadcasters:
B = BBC
I = ITV
S = Sky
U = UKTV
D = Discovery
F = Flextech
Q = QVC
G = God channels
X = Television X channels

Got that? Now read on.

For each broadcaster, a channel code must be assigned to each of that broadcaster's channels. Take BBC:

BBC television channels available in the UK:
1 = BBC1
2 = BBC2
3 = BBC3
4 = BBC4
5 = CBBC
6 = CBeebies
7 = BBC News 24
8 = BBC Parliament

BBC radio channels:
R1 = BBC Radio 1
R1X = 1Xtra BBC
R2 = BBC Radio 2
R3 = BBC Radio 3
R4 = BBC Radio 4
R5 = BBC Radio 5 Live
R5X = BBC 5 Live Sports Extra
R6 = BBC 6 Music
R7 = BBC 7 (as in radio)
R8 = BBC Asian Network
R9 = BBC World Service

Now, in each case you combine the broadcaster code (B for BBC), with the appropriate channel code to get the full code.

B + 1 = B1 -> BBC1
B + 2 = B2 = BBC2
B + 3 = B3 -> BBC3
B + 4 = B4 -> BBC4
B + 5 = B5 -> CBBC
B + 6 = B6 -> CBeebies
B + 7 = B7 -> BBC News 24
B + 8 = B8 -> BBC Parliament
B + R1 = BR1 -> BBC Radio 1
B + R1X = BR1X -> 1Xtra BBC
B + R2 = BR2 -> BBC Radio 2
B + R3 = BR3 -> BBC Radio 3
B + R4 = BR4 -> BBC Radio 4
B + R5 = BR5 -> BBC Radio 5 Live
B + R5X = BR5X -> BBC 5 Live Sports Extra
B + R6 = BR6 -> BBC 6 Music
B + R7 = BR7 -> BBC 7 (as in radio)
B + R8 = BR8 -> BBC Asian Network
B + R9 = BR9 -> BBC World Service

Do you now understand how I built up my set of codes for the BBC family of TV and radio channels?

As has been said before, I'm sure we can all see the logic, but we don't see the need (because, frankly, there isn't one).
