The international language of the world is English. But this fact did not stop some muppet dreaming up Esperanto as an alternative. Wonder when Rocky Balboa is coming out on DVD with Esperanto Subtitles....like NEVER!

Do I see a parallel situation here

Funny that you should say this dundee_mark, because on New Year's Eve, someone else made exactly the same statement - click here to see. I agree that

BBC1 is short for British Broadcasting Corporation One
CBBC is short for Children's British Broadcasting Corporation
ITV1 is short for Independent Television One

As for some of the others:
MTV is short for Music Television (run by MTV Europe)
TMF is short for The Music Factory (also run by MTV Europe)

To be honest this is nothing more than a briefly amusing - eventually pointless thread. Methinks it's time to unsubscribe.

OK Mickey Blue, proof of the pudding. Here some photos I got someone to take of me enjoying myself at Portsmouth Playzone on the adult pay-and-play night, Friday 2 September 2005. Here goes:

Me on the blue double drop slide:
a) lower (sloping) drop
b) Exiting its landing ball pit

Me on the soft play equipment:

Slither Chicane (kind of tunnel you crawl through)
Wringer Rollers (horizontal squeezy rollers)
Rope Swing
Spinning Poles (poles with sponge discs at their bases)
Tumble Tower (tower of zig zag sponge panels)

The second time I went to Portsmouth Playzone for an adult pay-and-play night (Friday 1 September 2006), I got someone to take video clips of me with my camcorder.

N.B. My camcorder is a Sony 8mm camcorder, I don't know how (is it indeed possible) to connect it to my PC, to transfer the footage to my hard disk, let alone upload it to the web. Hence I can't show you the videos.

So Mickey Blue (and everyone else), don't you tell me all I do is spend my time in front of the TV and on Digital Spy Forums, inventing codes for TV channels.

I havent got one of either, and I don't want one. Have you looked at all the pictures of me playing on the double drop slide and soft play equipment?

Now let's all get back to the subject of this thread: shorthand codes for TV channels.

By now I think you've all understood my formula for creating channel codes; each code is made up of two parts (broadcaster code followed by individual channel code, e.g. B + 1 = B1 -> BBC1).

This does create a problem with the Channel 4 Television family of channels. As you know, they have FOUR distinct channels (not counting +1s) now.

Channel 4 (Freeview 4 not Wales, 8 Wales)
More 4 (Freeview 13)
E4 (Freeview 14)
Film4 (Freeview 29)

Surely therefore, the broadcaster code should be 4, for Channel 4 Television. As for the individual channel codes, how about?

C = Channel 4
M = More 4
E = E4
F = Film4

Putting these together, you get

4C = Channel 4
4M = More 4
4E = E4
4F = Film4

The trouble is, the generally and readily accepted shorthand for Channel 4 since its launch in November 1982 seems to have been C4.

As for the three Channel 5 Broadcasting channels, how about:

Broadcaster code = 5

Individual channel codes
1 = Five (Freeview 5)
U = Five US (Freeview 35)
L = Five Life (Freeview 36)

Put these together to get:
51 = Five (code pronounced five one)
5U = Five US
5L = Five Life

However, for Five (launched March 1997) a simpler code would be just 5 on its own.

What a fantastic idea!

"Next on Daisy; it's BBC News; followed in half an hour by Midlands Today with Nick Owen..."

This thread is surreal...

I honestly think it's time to stop this thread now. From what I've seen in the last few posts, the OP may have very real mental health issues and it would not be right to make fun. The humour of the first few posts has long evaporated.

What would your code be for "Wind-up merchant TV"?

I disagree, it's been mostly light hearted until the one poster showed up making pathetic personal comments. No need to close a good thread and let a troll win. You can be sure the mods have had an eye on this one before now and they haven't objected.

No, it wasn't the personal comments. It was those last few posts from Star Attraction about his busy social life and the links to photographs from the children's funpark. It's disturbing.

Have to admit I didn't bother clicking the links he gave earlier but now I agree, it's... odd.

Good grief! This is fast getting out of hand. I just gave a brief outline of holidays / days out I made last year, to convince Mickey Blue that I don't just sit in front of my computer and TV making up codes for channels. The reason for putting the links to the photos was to give an example of somewhere I've been the last two years (away from my computer and TV).

What's disturbing Mickey S about the photos? What's odd Netizen? Firstly Mickey S, I wouldn't exactly call Portsmouth Playzone a funpark. Really it's an indoor adventure play complex (or indoor adventure playground, soft play area if you prefer).

Portsmouth Playzone is located in Cosham on the outskirts of Portsmouth. It features an Astra slide, two drop slides and loads of soft play equipment. They have a similar complex at Llansamlet on the outskirts of Swansea, called Swansea Playzone.

The first Friday evening of each month, 8pm to 11pm (last entry 9pm) both complexes do adult only evenings (18s and over) on a pay and play basis. That is, you just turn up, pay to go in and play. A chance for adults 18 and over to become kids for the night.

Now please may I stress, the photographs of me at Portsmouth Playzone, which I've provided links to, taken on Friday 2 September 2005, were taken during that month's "first Friday" adult pay-and-play session. Every other customer in the building that evening was an ADULT aged 18 or over, and everyone was having a great time. When I arrived around 7:50pm, I was surprised to see such a large number of adults turn up for that session. I thought at the time "Just goes to show, there's plenty more 'adult kids' out there besides me".

When I went there last year on the evening of Friday 1 September 2006, that too was an adult pay-and-play session, and once again everyone in the play area was an ADULT aged 18 or over.

Those adult pay-and-play nights are extremely popular. The first time I went there (2 Sep 2005), I was told they've had up to 300 adults appear for one of those sessions, oldest age 70. Just goes to show, your're never too old for a bit of soft play.

If ever either of you are in Portsmouth or Swansea on the first Friday of a month, give it a go. I guarantee you'll enjoy it. A chance to become a child for the night.

Here are some links for your information:
Adult pay-and-play nights at Portsmouth Playzone
Adult pay-and-play nights at Swansea Playzone

Is all this quite clear?

Would be ironic if the thread were now closed for going off topic eh?

OK, fair enough Netizen. Did you actually read the links to adult nights at Swansea and Portsmouth Playzones?

Back to the topic, this thread should stay. Just think, since I launched it nearly a year ago, it's been viewed 14,900 times. Just goes to show how successful and popular it's been.

Although they are not part of ITV Plc, they are still all part of the ITV1 network. Therefore the code I1 = ITV1 covers them all.

Look Mickey Blue, just like I said to Mickey S and Netizen a few notes back, those pictures of me were taken during an ADULT ONLY EVENING (2 September 2005) at Portsmouth Playzone. What's there to worry about?

Now back to TV channel codes please.

No postings for a couple of days, looks like this thread has reached its natural conclusion, let's keep quiet about it
