What on Earth is the point in the codes? The names are far easier to remember.

If that were the case it would make sense. But at the moment it isn't, and I don't believe there are plans to launch another QVC channel. By that logic you should put "1" after all the channel codes that don't have a second channel.

I originally wanted to use the code F1 for f tn. You see, f tn is Flextech Television Network. In other words it is (or at least WAS) owned by Flextech. Also, as you know, on Sky, there are a number of other channels, e.g. Bravo 1, Bravo 2, Challenge etc. which used to be owned by Flextech. I was therefore going to code them F + the relevant letter/number.

The snag is, all the former Flextech channels are now run by Virgin Media Television. Hence the broadcaster code for that group of channels must now be V, not F. This explains why I've chosen V1, and not F1 for f tn.

In case you missed it a week ago when I first posted it, here's my complete list of Virgin Media Television channels:

Television
VL1 = LIVINGtv (Sky 112)
VL1+1 = LIVINGtv + 1 (Sky 113)
VL2 = LIVINGtv2 (Sky 114)
VB1 = Bravo (Sky 121)
VB1+1 = Bravo + 1 (Sky 122)
VB2 = Bravo 2 (Sky 123)
VC = Challenge (Sky 124)
VC+1 = Challenge + 1 (Sky 125)
V1 = Ftn (Sky 157, Freeview 20)
VT = Trouble (Sky 201)
VT+1 = Trouble + 1 (Sky 202)

Radio
VR1 = Virgin Radio (Sky 0107)
VRX = VirginXtrme (Sky 0200)
VRC = VirginCRock (Sky 0201)
VRG = VirginGrve (Sky 0202)
VR2 = Virgin 105.8 (Sky 0203)

OK Mickey Blue, let me explain.

The first letter is the broadcaster code, in this case V for Virgin Media Television. I know the following TV channels don't have Virgin in their titles (such is life), but believe me, they are owned by Virgin. Go check out their site for proof.

The channel code comes next. It's L for Living. In fact there's two LIVINGtv channels (three if you count LIVINGtv+1).

L1 = LIVINGtv (Sky 112)
L1+1 = LIVINGtv + 1 (Sky 113)
L2 = LIVINGtv2 (Sky 114)

I know there's no "1" in the title of LIVINGtv, but to all intents and purposes it's LIVINGtv1. That's why the channel part of its code is L1, whereas LIVINGtv2 is L2.

Putting the broadcaster code (V) with the above three codes you get:

VL1 = LIVINGtv (Sky 112)
VL1+1 = LIVINGtv + 1 (Sky 113)
VL2 = LIVINGtv2 (Sky 114)

Get it?

Now do you see the logic behind the other groups of Virgin TV channels?

Bravo group
VB1 = Bravo (Sky 121)
VB1+1 = Bravo + 1 (Sky 122)
VB2 = Bravo 2 (Sky 123)

You see, Bravo is to all intents and purposes now Bravo 1 (since there's now a Bravo 2), even though there's currently no 1 in its title.

Well after all, harp back to ITV. ITV2 launched in autumn 1998, so to all intents and purposes the original ITV channel (HTV, Meridian, Anglia etc) was then ITV1, even though it wasn't officially rebranded ITV1 until summer 2001 (that's when you started seeing HTV itv1, Meridian itv1, etc.)

Challenge group
VC = Challenge (Sky 124)
VC+1 = Challenge + 1 (Sky 125)

Trouble group
VT = Trouble (Sky 201)
VT+1 = Trouble + 1 (Sky 202)

The odd one is Ftn, but I've explained it already in the note you replied to.

V1 = Ftn (Sky 157, Freeview 20)

As for the Virgin radio channels, again you put V for broadcaster code, R to indicate RADIO, and then the letter for the individual channel.
VR1 = Virgin Radio (Sky 0107)
VRX = VirginXtrme (Sky 0200)
VRC = VirginCRock (Sky 0201)
VRG = VirginGrve (Sky 0202)
VR2 = Virgin 105.8 (Sky 0203)

and you point is? SA you really have too much free time, this is the 21st century, and the channels already have names and codes, bbc1 itv1 ect are called that for a valid reason, if any one went with you logic of codes ect then it would tke time(8 yrs at least) to even understand the madness of them, and by then you will have eiither got bored with it or re invented the silly codes which would be as usefull as a chocolate condom in the new age of enlightenment,

Go check out the "General Discussion" page. See what's new there. I've recently added notes to some threads there.

No! It's only a week ago I went thru the Sky Guide and listed all the channels, and assigned codes to channels I'd not done so already.

I wanna know if there's any more Turner channels in the line-up (other than TCM & TCM2), so I can code them T followed by the appropriate letter/number.

Meanwhile check out this thread I launched yesterday:

Thing is, Sky has their own shortcodes for most if not all of their own channels, as evidenced by going to http://data.skyprogrammeinformation.co.uk ... Look at the URL when the page loads; it's showing Sky One programme information and the shortcode is SKD1. The Biography Channel is HIBG and Sky News is NEWB (which I found quite amusing from a gamer perspective).

So, more shortcodes to add to the pot and confuse people.

For things like Sky One, which is just two syllables anyway, what's the use in shortening it to two characters which take two syllables to pronounce anyway (putting aside the fact nobody'll know what you're on about)?

So now ITV2+1 has launched on DTT, do you have a code for this.

I'm guessing it would be I2+1 - am I right?

FYI, the OP (AKA DS FM SA) has been banned. No idea why, best not discuss it here either.

I worked out why, but as you say...not for discussion. I hope this thread passes away quietly...it's just not funny anymore.

I think this is one of the best threads ever. I keep popping back in to read the first two posts, which, without fail, make me laugh out loud.
