Too many episodes.
An incident with an out of control shop dummy should have taken care of them both in episode 1.

Off the top of my head...

Jackie:
Rose
End Of The World
Aliens of London
World War 3
Father's Day
Parting Of The Ways

Mickey:
Rose
Aliens of London
World War 3
Father's Day (although with a different actor obviously)
Boom Town
Parting Of The Ways

Far too many. Hopefully the second season will have them in much fewer, and will concentrate on, oh I dunno, sci-fi.

Having said that, I did reallllly like season one of Dr Who:TNG (for want of a better phrase). I just think that the episodes with the Mom and boyf were not necessarily all that good. Well, except for when Rose met her dad. That made me cry.

Have a nice day.

Perhaps it's best not to think of Doctor Who as sci-fi, so much as family-friendly drama with sci-fi and fantasy elements?

Which is what seems to have drawn the punters in...

Well yes, the formula seems to have worked. However, having said that, I'm sure we could have survived with fewer appearances of J & M without losing too many viewers.

Mickey is in 6 of the new ones: New earth (episode 1), School reunion (3), The Girl in the fireplace (4), Rise of the Cybermen (5), Episode 6, Army of ghosts (12) and Doomsday (13). I think.

Jackie is in at least 4, (Rise...., 6, Army, and Doomsday) and probably in more- rumours still abound she's going to the satan pit- but we don't know because that hasn't been filmed yet.

Some bloke said on the OG the other day that he sat next to Shaun Dingwall- pete tyler- on the tube and he said he's in 3 of them. (Take you're pick from 5, 6, 12 +13).

And you can't get a better source than some bloke who says he sat next to the guy on the tube, in my humble opinion.

Not on my on though am I mate?
I wonder if the writers find it hard to write for the Doctor and so they write most of the story for Rose, and some of the rest for her family etc?
Throughout the last series the Doctor failed to save the day and be the usual fount of knowledge that he has always been; instead we were treated to gurning and psychic paper.
Makes my aler ego's job easier though,
Ha ha ha.

Sorry, the bold type and italics in my last post was meant for the quote, I got it the wrong way round.

I think it was a deliberate decision to write the Doctor that way and give more focus to Rose because the character's being reintroduced through her.

In fact it reminded me a lot of the very first episodes of the First Doctor where the focus was more on the two teachers who stumbled upon the TARDIS and it's strange occupant.

However, DT looks like he will be the more dynamic in charge Doctor like we've come to expect.

As for Jackie and Mickey, I would have like to have seen a little less of them, but it's not the first time we've had recurring Earth based characters before either.

I hope you are right about DT.
As for previous earth based characters they've never been pointless like Jackie and Mickey. The UNIT Stories are some of my favourites. They came to be "family" without being family, it worked well.
The Clive character could have been quite good but they killed him off in episode one. I was hoping that the TARDIS would take us back and we'd see him again, but alas not so far.

Another vote for 'too many' here as well.

I'd also like to see a few new places, rather than just going from Cardiff, to Downing Street, to a Tower block and back again. What about these new worlds that they're travelling to?

Oh dear. Anti mickey people may want to avoid the cover to DW magazine 367.

(It's a photo of mickey, smiling and holding a tardis key. Appears he's got his own one now.)

It's worse inside - he's half-naked!

Well I suppose it may be of some comfort to the anti's to note it says inside they built 10 cybermen costumes, and an 11th cyberman helmet, that one designed especially to fit on noel clarkes head. They may be getting him to practice the way he says the word 'excellent' as we speak......

Lets hope that spells the end to the character then! I always thought that once you have been turned into a Cyberman, then you are done for. Perhaps this will signal the departure of Rose....

Couldn't agree with you more!

As for DWM I gave up buying that shortly after the Paul McGann effort.

Black Guardian Let us hope that this signs the beginning of the end for Ms Tyler & her dysfunctional relatives.

I don't mind Rose and will be sad to see Billie go as she has contributed to the success of the series but I think after the next 13 eps it is time for he to go. No reflection on her acting ability or anything but I think this 'romance' will reach a climax at the end of this series which will force both them to reappraise the situation.

As for Mickey and Jackie I have seen better acting from Pinocchio

My only problem with Rose is that in the last series she was more the Star than the Doctor. She is quite a good character and was well acted as well, but I think she could have done with being calmed down in the Scripts.
My theory is that her Character was created by RTD so he felt more comfortable writing for her than he did for a 42 year old character created by ?Sidney Newman.
As for the extras from Shameless, why even bother?

I don't remember Keith Miller being in the last series of Doctor Who.
