I used to pay for the privillage myself with BT but it's now FREE as part of their BT PRIVACY scheme.

Can't remember how much it was.

BT PRIVACY gives you free caller ID and enlists you on the telephone preferential service which stops cold calling...

Off the top of my head....... so hope it's all correct!

BT Charge £1.75 per month for Caller Display, or less if in one of their calling features packages.

However since 1st July 2005 Caller Display has been free if you sign up for it via BT Privacy, you have the option for Free Caller Display and to be added to the TPS list if you aren't already.

www.bt.com/btprivacy or 0800 916 5544 (24hr automated line).

To qualify for free caller display you need to make at least one chargeable call via BT each billing period, if you have your calls CPS'd to another provider, just dial 1280 before a call to place it back over BT.

Its not just the BT Privacy, you can sign up to the Telephone Preference Service (independant organisation) then tell BT and get caller display free. Thats what I have done

Thought that was what was implied in the posts.

When I did have a landline before moving to VoIP I has been on the TPS list for a few years, I then had the free caller display service added, it's all automatic, you just press 1 to enable free caller display, then press 1 to add your name to the TPS list - but no need to if you are already on it, and then press a digit if you don't want BT to hassle you.

Sorry I may not have explained myself very well What I mean is that there are are two telephone preference services
One is actually called the Telephone Preference Service
and the other is the BT Privacy, signing up to either of these gives you free caller display.
Also if you have been on the TPS for a couple of years you can just ring BT and they will give Caller display. Unfortunately they wont refund you if you have being paying for Caller Display unware that you can get it for nothing

I think you are getting mixed up there.

When you register for BT Privacy, they just pass your details to the TPS, if you opt for the TPS service.

You don't have to be registered or register with the TPS either directly or via BT Privacy to receive caller display for free, you can if you wish just have the free caller display, but to get it free you need to do so via BT Privacy. No they won't refund the cost, as BT caller display is still available as a chargeable item, without the requirement to make at least one chargeable call with BT per billing period.

I think you'll find that BT register you with TPS - there's only the one service. It's a bit cheeky of BT to make out that they have a service of their own.

Edit: Beaten to it!
