Torchwood Casting - Eve Myles is Gwen Cooper
tallorder
23-02-2006
Not sure if anyone caught it, but the BBC News site posted and then retracted the fact that Eve Myles (last seen in 'The Unquiet Dead' as Gywenth) has been cast as Gwen Cooper, the female lead in Torchwood.

I spotted this news over on Outpost Gallifrey , where debates now rage about the significance of this and the pointlessness of the Beeb putting an embargo on news that is already out there...

Hope it's true...

Ah Gwyneth.

I remember many of us commenting at the time after 'The Unquiet Dead' what a very good actress the person playing Gwyneth was.

And quite a few of us thought it would have been good if she was able to come back later in the series.
Even though in this case it's just the actress coming back this time as opposed to the character she played.

She looks a lot sexier in the pic with John Barrowman.

Gwyneth?

Gwen?

Hmm...I wonder.

Sounds very much like it's possible that 'Gwen' could well be related to 'Gwyneth' in some way perhaps?

Maybe a descendant or something.

Or is 'Gwen' an abbreviation of 'Gwyneth'???
You never know.

This is the third characther she's played called Gwen according to Imdb, presuming of course that Gwen is a seperate character from her Doctor Who character.

She was in Doctor Who as Gwyneth also Eastenders as Gwen

I do hope it's Gwyneth. The series is also set in Cardiff, so you never know.

Torchwood ... the series is set in the Doctor's mind and takes place (in real time) during the period in "The Christmas Invasion" when the Doctor was in a coma - having just regenerated.

The finale sees Captain Jack trying to save Gwen from a giant whisking machine that has been installed by aliens to create genuinely likeable custard. The sound of the giant whisk awakens the Doctor who then notices a whirling Christmas tree coming towards him...

If my memory serves me correct Eve appeared in a EastEnders bubble called Dot's Story.
The story focused on when Dot was evacuated during the war to someone she called her Auntie Gwen and Eve played the younger version.
