With the news that Mike Baldwins death is sooner than we originally thought, who do you think should return for his funeral out of all the past characters (still living of course) that had any connection with him.

This death is going to go down in Corrie's history and I think his funeral should be a fantastic way of old characters to return for this as a one-off

I think the following should return:

Hilda Ogden
Bet Lynch
Jackie Ingram
Ida Clough
Linda Baldwin
Mark Redman (although he is returning for 4 eps (does this include the funeral))
Suzie Birchall

Anyone think of anymore?

I'm not that clued up on past characters Streetcars, although i do remember Ivy Tilsley, did she work for Mike B at the factory?

I def agree with Hilda, Bet, Linda and Mark. I honestly don't know of the others

BTW i heard a while ago, and don't quote me on this, that Curly Watts was coming back, do you know if this is true?

Ivy Tilsley is a past dead character so she wouldn't be able to return (although Lynne Perrie is still very much alive)

Re Curly Watts - have no idea. Nothing has been in the press about it recently

Blimey thanks for that, i (hand on heart) didnt realise that Ivy had died, i very much remember Don B's (peg-leg) death though, that was very dramatic.

I was never really a big Curly fan, so either way wouldnt worry me.

He snuffs it in April i believe. I, like a lot of people, thought he was on our screens til the autumn.

I like Mike, although i did prefer it when he was a rogue and ladies man, which he couldnt be forever i know.

Warren should return for the funeral. I don't want him to but it is realistic.

By the way, when are Penny & Adam coming back? They've been away for a very long time

How does Mike die? Presumably they are not giving the dementia story time to run as previously planned.

As he is suffering from Alzheimers, he keeps wandering around the streets in the pouring rain and develops pneumonia. He will die from this

It would be good if Bet & HIlda came back but not permanently, just for the funeral

With regards to Ivy I can't quite remember how she died but I do remember the 'ghost' storyline where she haunted Jack and Vera.........

The poster was right about Mike's funeral being of major importance as he through the annuls of soap history has become a legend.

Mark's mum who was the florist and also Ken's ex would make a good returnee.. She left to opena florists in Felixstowe!!! I've lived here all my life and I've still to meet her!!!

Personally, I would find it odd for Bet not to show up - she had a very close relationship with Mike during her time on the Street. However the possibility of Julie Goodyear being asked back is very slim.

You listed some great people there Streetcars. Firstly, it is widely known that Jean Alexander will probably never return as Hilda, although her appearance at Mike's funeral would be phenomenal.

I would love to see Suzie Birchall back, especially to see her back alongside Gail, however Cheryl Murray (who played Suzie) suffers from Multiple Sclerosis and it would be far too much for her to even think of reprising the role.

Another addition to the list could be Mark's mother, Maggie Redman.

I was explaining in another thread a few days ago about Ivy's death.

Ivy was written out of the programme in 1994 after Lynne Perrie had her lips done which completely deformed her face. It was (and still is) part of an actor's contract that they cannot alter their appearance dramatically, and in doing this Lynne Perrie allowed the axe to swing for Ivy.

When she was initially written out, Ivy went to live in a religious retreat.

In 1995, Lynne Perrie published a shocking book titled "Secrets of the Street" (its contents is self explanatory) which annoyed Granada and the off-screen character of Ivy was promptly killed-off.

Who was Jackie Ingram?
I'd like to see Eddie Yates back and possibly Roy Barraclough ( don't remember his screen name)

Your log-in befits you, Elsie Tanner, you are indeed a true Corrie fan. I had forgotten about the retreat, lip saga and kiss and tell book completely!

Thank you

Jackie Ingram was another of his wives....... Her husband had a factory and Mike worked for him (after he sold the factory to the builders), Mr Ingram died (he was aslo in Porridge, Tony Osoba) and Mike married Jackie, In true Mike style it was for money and not love. She binned him about a week after the wedding when she discovered he had set up another factory with her money

Jackie Ingram was a woman who Mike married in 1991. The storyline was very much like that with Penny King - Jackie was the wife of one of Mike's business assosciates who died, and Mike soon won her into bed.

The essence of it was that Mike was after her money, and after only a week of marriage Jackie found out and threatened to kill Mike with a shotgun.

If they brought all of these back (plus Eddie Yates) I'd be tempted to start watching it again.
