Using 18185

I've been using 18185 for some time now to make inland and mobile calls. Last night I called from Bewdley to a Worcester number using 18185, a distance of about 15 miles, and the person I called told me my call had come up 'International' on her caller display.

Has anyone any similar experiences or info on why this should happen?

Yes, this is quite common. It just means the call has been routed over some cheap circuit that doesn't support callerID.

I've been using 18866, 1899 and 18185 for about 2 years now. 18185 less as it wasn't around then.

I found that weekday daytime calls often do show up the other end as International, and this is why I warn people not to just ignore International calls.

This happens because it is cheaper for Finarea to route the call outside the UK and back in again, therefore your number is being transmitted as 00441299nnnnnn. BT doesn't always display international numbers, there is no rhyme or reason to it, as sometimes I'd get USA, Spanish, German and French numbers display, yet others not.

Now I have moved completely to VoIP I get to see all numbers that aren't withheld or unavailable, whether international or not, as this system doesn't hide international numbers behind an International flag.
