Little help? [dhd4000]

Not even sure where to start looking for this as I'm not the primary user of our DHD4000 - my wife has been having all manner of problems with it though, so am hoping if I can pass on her vague descriptions someone will be able to make sense of it.

Firstly - is the DHD4000 meant to shut off every night? Even if left on and recording at night, by morning it's shut off and this means it will miss the odd recording which is scheduled for after whatever time the unit has gone to sleep.

Second - partial recordings - last night is a good example... three shows were down to record (twins, it crowd and something else) and she got 5 minutes of it crowd and 35 minutes of twins...

I'm hoping this isn't a return-to-retailer situation as unbeatable.co.uk are no more!

So, any suggestions?

Yes that's EXACTLY how it's supposed to work. If you ever found yourself awake at 3am with the box "on" you will have seen it pop up a message to say "you've got 30 seconds or I'm going to switch to standby in order to go and get any software update and the daily EPG data". As you are not there to cancel the operation this normally goes ahead and the box switches to standby and gets EPG data. The only reason it wouldn't is if you have arecording already in progress at 3am. But this DOES NOT MATTER. The joy of the 4TV boxes is that they are just as happy at recording stuff in "standby" as they are with the box "on". So if you then have a recording set at 5am the box will make it anyway. So there's nothing to be concerned about here.

What was the actual timing of those programs? That is was there ever a three way overlap (though the box should have warned you about this when you set the recordings). Needless to say, in the normal run of things the 4000 should always record all the entire programs you set it for so this behaviour, if not just a one off IS something to be concerned about.

Up until last night I have never had a problem with my Thomson, but last night the same thing happened when I set it to record Soylent Green, I found it had only recorded about 5 minutes.

Today it happened again when I recorded Harry Hill, only 5 minutes again, in both cases the full duration was shown but it always stopped about 5 minutes in.

The only thing I have changed recently is the way I delete watched programmes, I now set them to a scheduled delete as opposed to before deleting them as I watched them, maybe I should go back to doing it like that as there was never a problem then.

Mine does, everytime I record something that overlaps the 3am update I still get a recording but with a huge chunk of about 15 minutes or so missing at the point where it shuts down to do it's update. I always thought this was normal.
