Keep the skates on the ice
Stunty
25-02-2006
Next week the skaters trick should be to have their skates in contact with the ice throughout the dance.

Gaynor in particular held on to her partner constantly, let go for the spin them clung back on.... the rest of the time she was in the air being hurled around be her partner.

Jason's comment 'she's not a dancer or a performer'...... err what, she's an actor for gods sake.

Bonnie does similar to Gaynor but not quite as bad.

Stefan in particular has less support/guidance round the ice and those lifts he did, Gaynor and Bonnie couldn't skate round on their own holding a bunch of flowers never mind another person.

Rant over, not sure why I am watching it really.

I'll second that. Please make next week's compulsory element actually keeping the skates on ice for most of the performance.

But that wouldn't exactly make a very good spectacle for the crowd and viewers would it? It's the lifts that are getting the whoops and cheers. A fully on ice performance, considering that these celebs are no where near professional standard and on a relatively small rink, would lose a lot of its entertainment value.

so you're not looking for skating you're looking for spectacle. this immediately puts Stefan at a disadvantage - he's the best skater but he can hardly be expected perform the same lifts with kristina as matt and dan do with the ladies!!!

I'm saying the stuff with the 'wow' factor is what gets your average joe public talking about the show. The producers aren't daft and would never ban an element that makes their show more exciting and adds to the drama.

Yes, it does put Stefan at a disadvantage (but not more than poor Sean was, at least Stefan can lift his partner!). But, call me an old cynic, Stefan is helped by his looks. No matter how much people want to deny it he will pick up some votes from young girls voting for him because he's cute. Bonnie and Gaynor don't have that advantage.

I think Bonnie is much worse than Gaynor for not staying on the ice. She's probably spent about 98% of her time on the ice eaither in the air or clinging onto Matt!

I think Gaynor is more confident when she is on the ice than Bonnie,Bonnie is of course spectacular in the air

It is only skating when you have *one* skate on the ice at any one time. To be more precise, half a skate (one edge)

wouldnt it be boring if they all skated the same

Its a Saturday night entertainment programme

I want to be entertained not bored by looking for the best technique

I watch eurosport to see the technical side of ice skating

I don't necessarily agree, for example I found the routines Sean and Martika did very enjoyable even without much lifting. Maybe they should just restrict each couple to two or three lifts per routine - that would mean that the male professional couldn't just carry his female celebrity partner round the rink and they'd have to come up with something a bit more imaginative. At times I think Bonnie is more of a prop than a partner to Matt!

It doesnt look like any of the celebs will be keeping their skates on the ice this week

not when they are going to be flying on wires
