I'll eat Cliff's hat if it turns out flawless from the off.

The major brand strategy did not seem to work for you there.
Anyway lets hope Sonys attempt is more successful but I would not make any assumptions on the basis of any label whatever the size of the maunfacturer. I remember about a year ago lots of people were confident the twin tuner Humax would be a model of reliability because the single tuner one had been; indeed even before that the same confidence was being placed in the Panny.
By the way without disagreeing that many PVRS have had too many problems some of us have been using them for years with very few problems.

The thing is even if this box did turn out to be perfect in terms of reliability and ease of use, some would still consider it deeply flawed because of the limited hard drive, or because it didn't have USB transfer, or whatever else - that's the beauty of this diverse product arena we all enjoy

Personally, if my own PVR broke down tomorrow, all I'd be looking for to replace it was a Fusion with perhaps a more polished UI, and none of the worries on the hardware front (most of the Fusion's problems being more to do with cheap components than software) - and a 4TV Sony could be just the ticket.

But you'd wait for the price to drop. So, maybe it'd better not break tomorrow.

This box now appears to be available. Anyone got one yet, and is it flawless?

Doesn't sound very good, does it, from that thread?

Looks like Cliff's hat's safe.

Why has there been such a large gap on this thread? Have the likes of SONY given up on a twin digital tuner PVR?

They simply bought a model in from Digifusion, and didn't make it themselves.

Initially it was a disaster, but they eventually managed to sort them out with an OTA update (after their first attempt broke all the boxes).
