Hi,
This forum seems a bit quiet but I might try my luck ... I'm looking for a 28" widescreen TV, 50hz (I want to play gun games on it), doesn't need to be pro-logic as I have a digital reciever to handle the sound anyway. I don't want to spend anything more than 400 quid if possible. According to pricerunner (uk.pricerunner.com) there are a number of TV's available, but I am having trouble finding reviews for them (I've looked at homecinemachoice). Can anyone suggest any sites for reviews for TV's or can anyone recommend a TV ? Thanks In Advance Martin |

I am in the exact same position (see my earlier discussion).
The TV's that come into your (and mine!) budget are the following; Hitachi C28W410 £369.99 Inc Stand http://www.empiredirect.co.uk Hitachi C28W410S (Silver) £374.99 Inc Stand http://www.empiredirect.co.uk Sharp 66FW53H £389.90 http://www.bedirect.co.uk Toshiba 28W93B £389.90 http://www.bedirect.co.uk I hope this helps! My current favourite is the Hitachi in Silver, as it copes with an NTSC signal, autoswitches between modes and has a good reputation. So does the Tosh, but I wanted it in silver. I also have not been able to find reviews on the net of these TV's. Let me know what you decide! Dave |

http://www.hed.co.uk/showitem.asp?CAT=50&PID=21 (details are : Super Flat Dark Tint Invar Mask 28 inch (66cm) picture tube, Digital picture & sound processing, Auto size adjustment, NICAM audio 55W RMS, Dolby Pro-Logic 3 mode, Subwoofer, Twin drive centre speaker, 100 preset channels, Multi standard video playback, 3x SCART, Front AV, Headphone socket, Auto set-up, Auto 16:9, Rear speakers, Cabinet stand. £399.99 ) main reason is the 3 scart sockets - lets hope it is reasonably good. |

Sounds good. I didn't realise it had 3 scarts and the dolby prologic speakers. Can you let me know what you think of it? My purchase is imminent!

Am I right in thinking that Pro Logic decoder in the TV is useless with the dolby digital output of a DVD player? Would you get any surround sound effects, or would it just not work? Any help greatly appreciated.

Dolby Digital sounds can be 'downmixed' to play in NICAM or Dolby Pro-Logic - if you connect your DVD player to the TV/Amp by either SCART or audio leads this should happen automatically.

Stick with Dolby Digital and 100Hz
Toshiba do 32" 100Hz TVs with Dolby Digital sound.
Your eyes will be better off with a 100Hz TV, especially when playing games. After all you wouldn't set your PC monitor's refresh rate to 50Hz would you, unless you wanted a constant headache !! If I were you I wouldn't consider anything less, you'll only regret it a year down the line. |

I was trying to recommend an 'all round TV' to meet your needs.
Yes you're right...TVs with any type of built in surrond decoder will always be a compromise. You can't beat a decent Dolby Digital Amp. Also make sure it has DTS for the future. |

Re: Re: Stick with Dolby Digital and 100Hz
I've recently heard that the RGB on some Toshiba TVs is a bit iffy. If I were you I would definatley ask for a FULL demo before you buy.
Stick with Sony and you can't go wrong. |

Argh, I've just been told the TV won't be available before christmas from http://www.hed.co.uk.
Anyone know of any places that are likely to have things in stock and available for delivery ? I'll probably have to stretch the budget a bit to find one now ![]() HxBro |

My TV and video have arrived !!!!
I've yet to test them (that will happen tonight with a wide range of things to test (dvd, consoles, ondigital). I ordered my video (Toshiba V730UK) from electricalwarehouse.co.uk (ordered on friday came today) and my TV (Toshiba 28W8DB) from empire direct and again ordered friday came today. I've paid about 150 quid more than I was going to pay with the original order from http://www.hed.co.uk but I have got a slightly better model of video and at least the order has been delivered before christmas ![]() HxBro |

Well I've got everything setup. I'm reasonably impressed with the sound quality coming from the TV. I do loop the sound through my reciever from the TV to get greater control as well.
The screen is reasonably flat - its not that noticable when sat at a distance from it. Picture quality wise it does look ok and I'm pleased with it. There is a slight bend in the picture but after a while I started to not notice it. In the top corners I noticed a colour change from what it should be - this did go away once the picture wasn't static (I had the screen from my dvd player showing when I noticed - after starting a dvd it went away). The 3 scart sockets are brilliant - I can plug everything in and not have to worry about changing cables when I want to use something else with a scart socket There are also svideo sockets if I decide to have absolutley everything plugged in (various consoles).Overall its a nice tv and as it has dolby pro-logic for the price it was reasonably good - its a shame I didn't get it for the 399.99 that I was originally going to pay for it.
