I am going to try to heal the deep rift on this forum between you all, because it is a pity that such an exciting new programme has caused so many rude comments. We should each recognise that we have our own favourites, for various reasons, and that is not letting us see clearly who is best at doing what.

I think we, including me, have missed the point. The show is called Dancing on Ice, not Ice Dancing. It is not the amateur version of Olympic Ice Dancing. The judges, and Jayne and Chris, have left behind them skating in Ice Dancing as a competition. I believe they are all (with the exception of Jason) skilled in taking part in Shows on Ice. And that is exactly what ITV has presented us with – a show on ice, which is why there was flying in the last programme. It is part of “XXX On Ice” (fill in your own title in place of the XXX, eg Las Vegas, Swan Lake, or whatever). It is not a copy of Strictly Come Dancing that is played out on ice.

Once that penny dropped with me, it became clear that this is why the judges were giving marks the way they were. If I had paid good money to go and see “Show on Ice” I would want Bonnie to be in it, not any of the others. If on the other hand I had paid to go and see Amateur Ice Dancing, then I would want to see Stefan, or Gaynor or David, as for me they were the best three skaters (but in no particular order!) By the way, I am not forgetting the huge debt we owe to the professional skaters when I use the word “amateur”, but that has been covered elsewhere on this Forum.

If I am right, then I think it is a pity that this point of view was not made clear from the outset by all concerned with the programme. It would have led to a lot less confusion in the minds of the voting public, including me.
