What's the storyline about and why should it be banned for the benefit of those of us who dont watch it and so don't know what you mean?

Lets ban all storylines involving plane crashes, train crashes, car crashes, people dying, people kissing, people talking because it may offend somebody in the real world...

Ypung Anthony Murray was bullied by two girls for a long time. He snaps and fights back. IMelda falls into a pond after he bangs her head and we are led to believe she is dead although her body has not been found. This happened ages ago. His father may be arrested but he is not guilty. The only problem I can see is that he is also a school caretaker. Bad timing but I don't see why they should change a long running story because of recent tragic events. Messiah part 2 has been postponed till later in the year as it features the murder of a young girl.

I have to agree with what I think Spirituel is implying here. Soaps are meant to be a reflection fo things that happen. So why ban particular storylines cos they happen to be topical?

I know that this message should be put in the soaps forum but I think what should be banned from ever happening again is Pat Evan's crying(Eastenders). I know this has not hapened for a long time but I always remember her crying a lot at one stage and in nearly every episode for what seemed like ages and what a howl she made!:'(

I don't understand who would ban this storyline. I mean, to ban something is to BANISH it forever. Do you mean suspend or postpone the story ?

Who would hold that responsibility. I don't see the storyline breaks any ITC regulations.

Why not just contact the producers and tell them your concerns.

If you know about a future storyline, it must spoil your enjoyment of the programme. You seem to know a lot about the future plot, so what do you get out of watching it unravel ?

Or is it that you read soap magazines ?

Banning it would be wrong. If it aired in sixth months time it would make no difference, excpet to highlight what short emotional memories people have. Can anyone remember if anything was banned when Daniola Taylor was murdered?

You cant ban everything on television or radio that has even the slightest link to what is going on in real life however distasteful it may seem. Are we a democratic country, or are we being run by a sadaam hussein republic, where every thing is censored, so that we only get to see or hear what is deemed fit by our glorious leaders. Lets hope that never happens!!!!

I always hate the way people want some storylines or programmes pulled because of what's going off in the news. A lot of these things happen in the outside world and just because a programme, storyline clashes with when something similar is going off in the real world doesn't mean it should be cancelled because a couple of people might be offended.

Producers in Soapland are always in a no-win situation anyway. Whenever they tackle something contravertial from the news coincidently or not - they`ll always get complaints from viewers..
With the storylines that are on lately on EastEnders perhaps they should move the soap to 9pm or so.
That would probably bring a deluge of complaints too, so they can`t win.

Whoever is suggested that banning the storyline is wrong. If it does get banned (I'm not affected coz I don't watch Brookside) then we're just another step closer to being a full-on PC neutered society.

Air the storyline, let it run its natural course. People might be upset, yes I realise that. But what about free speech? "oooh no, we can't have you saying what you want to say.... you might upset somebody!". Hmm.

Another thing to consider is that a lot of people have nothing better to do than ring the TV companies and complain. It's a fact and one which (thankfully) isn't ignored by the TV companies. A lot of people might be slightly offended by something on TV, but what would it take for YOU to complain?

<on phone to duty desk>
....."and while I'm speaking to you I'd like to know, whatever became of those delightful kittens which used to come on and play with balls of wool during the intermission?"
</on phone to duty desk>

Maybe they could write a bit in about a tabloid newspaper offerring a reward for 'evidence'...... (remind me - exactly HOW does justice work if money is involved???)...

Jus.

I don't think censorship falls into the catagory of political correctness.

Yes it's a conincidence and very bad timing but many people will realise that it is only a soap opera and they have shared the grief of the nation over the last few weeks, therefore wont take this storyline too much to heart.

we are told we are a democratic country. doesn't mean we are.

how would we know what news is being censored if we didnt see it.

i'm sure the people being ruled by sadaam are told that we live in the "evil" west, just as we're told that sadaam and his followers are "evil". works both ways. who's right ?

personally speaking i often wonder just who is pulling the strings of our great democracy. i'm reminded of the house of cards/to play the king series, "ooh, let's blow up a block of flats and get the king to visit the survivors just for good publicity". god forbid things like this have happened....but...there's no smoke without fire.

okay, i've said enough...now shoot me down in flames as a raving loony-leftie-communist-anarchist, when in reality all i am is a quite intelligent person who doesn't accept and readily believe all that is offered.
