Dancing on Ice will shown in Italy
The Turk
06-03-2006
Ive been watching Dancing on Ice on satellite here in Italy and I can tell you it will be shown in Italy soon as well. Yes, the British original itself, not a remake.
I've been seeing it advertised on Canale 5. They failed to win the rights to do their own version, that went to Rai Uno so Canale 5 decided to show the British version itself.
They figured as there will be people on there Italians recognise, the main draw being Torvil & Dean that it will get high ratings. That's the theory anyway, obviously it might be a gamble as they'll either have to cut bits when the presenters are on or dub their voices.
Anyway, its coming soon here so just thought you might want to know. Should be interesting to see how they'll edit it.

I can get RAI International on Astra 19deg satellite, is Canale5 on there too? Philip Schofield shouting in Italian would be funny!
I'd watch an Italian version of the show too, specially if they had those two skaters who fell out during the Winter Olympics! Diego Maradona was on their version of Strictly Come Dancing, it'd be fun to see him ice skate as one of the celebs.
They'd have to make sure Tessa Jowell's husband wasn't influencing the judges in any way tho.

Tessa Jowell's husband seems to be able to speak Italian so if he feels the need to escape from Britain for a while after all that trouble's over, he could theoritically have a word with his mate Berlusconi -if he survives the corruption charges- to be one of the judges. Mr B could probably make anything happen in Italy, with his influences.
Yeah, it would be hillarious to hear Schofield in Italian.
Also Andy Peters as well. Can you imagine that?!
As for whether Canale5 is on Astra 19deg, Im not an expert on this Im afraid but I would recommend you go over to the satellite forum here on DS. There are experts there that are bound to be able to answer that question.

According to Lyngsat (http://www.lyngsat.com/freetv/Italy.html) Canale5 is available FTA from Hotbird 2 (13°E)

Turk, have you any idea when this will be starting and what the scheduling is?

Cheers,

Degs
