Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has heard any news about the Homechoice national roll out due to take place at some point this year.

From previous posts, its clear that a national rollout is coming at some point, but some dates would be nice!

Cheers

Were they involved in a certain high profile robbery recently? LOL

I'm interested if it still happening, I have thought that they would have at least launched to an small area first (Birmingham, Newcastle) to get it right there rather than have an wide launched on day and it fails. Put Homechoices finances are not good from what I here

Unfortunately, Homechoice generally tend to do the, actually quite responsible thing, of not announcing things until they've actually launched. So, while they've now said they want to roll out to other cities this year, they've not publicily said what cities and when and they probably wont until they actually launch there.

Well you might think it responsible, but I'd say it quite bad market practice, and the end of the day, customers in the areas that Homechoice are moving to later this year may be looking to take an pay TV option out now, if they new Homechoice was coming soon, they may decided they want homechoice and wait for it to become available, however because they have no idea it becoming available, they are just are going to sign with NTL Telewest or Sky now, meaning their likely to be under 12 month contract when Homechoice launches

I spoke to customer services on Monday and I was told they are still waiting for the funding to be signed off for the proposed expansion. Hopefully it will be signed off in the next few weeks - roll out not before May June...

This is typical of homechoice - No doubt it is wrapped up in the speculation with regard to a sale

I seriously doubt the longevity of Homechoice. They've financed themselves way beyond their means and by the end of this year they will have nationwide competition of a live and VOD mix from both Sky and BT/Freeview. It's not looking good IMHO, which is a shame as when I first saw their product about 7/8 years ago it was way ahead of its time. Now it's a bit passe. The boat left the port about 18 months ago, and they weren't on it.

Your opinion, here mine. They are the only company doing IPTV via standard ADSL. They are getting new customers at a very high rate - I'd guess 5k per week at present (looking at 300k LLU and the customer base of the other two providers).

The HC service makes NTL and Telewest's VOD look pathetic and poor value - which it is. And NTL? I'd pay to get away from them. If Sky are interest and buy HC, then fair enough its not because HC are crap. At the IPTV conference Homechoice are giving one of the keynote speeches, becuase they are the market leader. When the government wanted to trial IPTV and community access who did they choose - HC.
You can also add the Microsoft, Sony and Sky are shareholders. HC service is excellent and they are miles ahead of anyone else.
Just my opinion.

I'm not knocking them, it's just from a business point of view, they have left it too late to think about rolling out nationally, and they've not got enough income just being within the M25. that's why it doesn't look good, and later this year there will be two existing nationwide communication companies with the finance and network to do it properly. It's a real shame, but you'd better start making plans for that sexy HC you've got LOL

Looks like it is even less likely there will be a roll out for a number of months if at all

Home Choice's tv packages don't seem as much value for money as Telwest/NTL/Sky. You pay more for less channels.

True but the problem I have is that I cant stick a dish on the side of the flat - listed building - and I dont live in a cable area, so IPTV is the only realistc way forward I think....
