This woman phoned and called me by my first name, and then she told me her first name. She had what appeared to be a american accent. It also stated on caller display that it was an International call.

She said "i've phoned because i've reached you through a friend or family member". She said "do you no anyone?". I said no.
She then said, "do you know someone called?"...and then said someones name. I said no.

She said, "ok thanks, we may call from time to time to update our records", then she put the phone down.

Thats how the conversation i think went. It was something along those lines, but i just replied no to both questions.

Anyone else had experience with this?

You should of just put the phone down!

They could of been anyone.

In future, ask the following questions before you volunteer to give any information re-direct the call to another member of household:

1. What's your name and what organisation are you calling from. (If they don't tell you, just hang up)

2. Why do you require details from me and what will your organisation do with my personal details? (If they tell you that its a database involved in market research and you don't want that, just hang up. If they don't give you a reason, just hang up straight away.

3. Why are you based internationally(If from a foreign country)? (If they don't give you a proper reason, just hang up)

Also, if they ask strange qeustions like this again, just put the phone down as they could be serious criminals!
