Darren Day's accent - a sort of mixture of Eliza Doolittle and Parker from ' Thunderbirds ' - is it for real ? Or is he just making fun of Nigel Benn ?

Maybe he's trying to disguise his normal Cliff Richard voice

I know!!! I never remembered him having a strong accent, and suddenly he sounds like one of the Brixton Massive.
How old is he? Is'nt he a little old to be saying "innit" >????

It's a brand new accent, he has never had it before. I think he's trying to reinvent himself and going for a different market. Just sounded daft in my opinion.

I think he is trying to be "best mates" with Nigel Benn, talking like Ali G seems to be his way of doing that.

But isnt his ex Isla Fisher dating Sacha Baron Cohen who plays Ali G? Maybe hes trying to win her back by taking on the lingo

I believe they called it "Mockney" - as borrowed from Damon Albarn, Jamie Oliver etc

Darren seems to have stopped imitating Nigel for the moment - now he's moved on to ingratiating himself with Tara P-T - I shuddered last night at the thought, I just hope her mind isn't addled enough to find him attractive...

Hello, by the way!

None of us who speak "Mockney" try to do it intentionally. It's just a tag given to us by all you other people who don't speak properly

Nope, Mockney isn't natural, if it was I'd not have a problem with it. It's the nobs who, for some bizzare reason known only to themselves, try to sound like something they're not (Nigel Kennedy for one and, might be a bit of a shock to some, Bob Hoskins for another) that confuse and irritate me with it.

That was one of Mr Day's many impressions. He used to be quite good at snooker too, apparently!

Anyway - I somehow ended up watching Kym Marsh's Wedding on Sky One on Sunday. Her accent was hilarious - she would be right Northern one minute and then trying to speak posh the next. She was never that posh on Popstars!

Listen lovies...

There is nothing wrong with the old Mockney accent... Its a way for nobs who dont have the accent to pretend to be nobs that do... so they're not really pretending to be anything that they're not...

Bring on a bit of that Malarky me old son... Go on the Cliff of the 90's.
