I think we have 1 Ice rink near us thats about 20 miles down the road the next nearest is abot 60 miles away

i dont think anyone near me will be rushing to an ice rink

the thing is when i was a teenager we had 4-5 icerinks within a 5 mile radius

Our nearest rink has been packed to capacity for weeks now. They have actually been turning people away they are so busy.

Believe me I used to have it all to myself sometimes when I was younger.

I can believe this.
When myself and my friend went skating earlier in the week the ques were verging on insane. They actually had to have 3 of the Ice Attendants standing at the head of the Que to control everyone else...Crowd Management if you like.

there are a lot of rinks in the UK that have closed or are on the verge of closure due to lack of interest or investment it would be good to see some money spent on these

The one in my town closed down in the 1980's. There was also a music venue on the same site which went at same time. Ever since then there's been arguments about getting one back. Maybe DOI will help.

Altrincham closed in 2003 to make way for houses. They are supposed to be building another but they haven't started yet. The nearest depending on where you live is either Deeside or Blackburn. I can't find any info on usage at Blackburn but Deeside's been busier since Altrincham shut.

To be honest Im not suprised Altrincham closed down. My brother used to play Ice Hockey for Deeside around 12 years ago and I used to go with him to their away games. I remember Altrincham was the most rundown and grottiest of the lot, although Whitley Bay wasn't much better.

Deeside was closed two or three years ago for refubishment and is now one of the best rinks in the country, John and Sinead Kerr sometimes train there. I don't know why Cardiff has "The National Ice Rink of Wales" title because Deeside is now better equipt

Whereabouts in Deeside are you? I'm live an hour from Aberdeen.

I don't actually live in Deeside, about ten miles away. We are very lucky to have a rink so close and I used to love going there when I was younger.

I went a week or so ago - and we went ealy Thursday afternoon, thinking it would be quiet. No, paceked with kids, adults. It was really busy and the queues! And I over heard the manager saying it's been the busiest he's ever seen it in the last few weeks, because of "that programme on the tele"

They train there with Joan Slater, and at Murrayfield. They use to train train at Altrincham before it shut.
