Homechoice and PVR
Arid

I've had Homechoice for about 5 months now and I'm loving it, esp VOD. Only problem is not being able to record programmes I like very often. Is there a PVR system that I can buy that is simple to use with Homechoice and also not too expensive? I think this would be a lot better than just hoping a programme is going to be available on VOD!

The only yPVR compatible with HomeChoice that I'm aware of is TiVo which is no longer supported fully in the UK and only available from niche retailers or eBay.

You may have some success with a customer built PVR but this goes a little bit past the "simple to use" request.

Sorry.

At the basic level you could use a PC or PVR as an old style VHS recorder, just recording what is on the channel you are watching. There are quite a few threads dealing with XP Media Centre with Home Choice, although whether it ever worked I don't remember.

But is there any way to record programmes I am not watching or when I'm out?

If you get hold of a Tivo you can get the channel guide subscription either 10/month of 200 for lifetime (of the tivo).
New TV and STD are added quite often (homechoice for instance). The only support you won't get is a guarantee, but companies exist to provide full support for the hardware, adding network cards and upgrading. The Tivo is still better than any mere PVR. Only one tuner though.

arid. i've enquired about this too mate. to be honest its not worth the hassle. its cheaper to sign up with sky and use their skyplus service, replace the hard drive with a nice 200 gig one and your laughing.

ive still got homechoice, freeview for now, and will get sky as soon as homechoice decides its next step in its fight for survival.

Cheaper to sign up for Sky? Thats a novel concept, Sky being cheap. HC and sky are very different services do Sky have a ADSL service yet?

Troll.

I have to agree with you there. The only problem I have with homechoice is this VOD thing (and not having Sky 1 or Living). All other services are much better - and cheaper- than what Sky have to offer

Arid: What do you mean by "The only problem I have with homechoice is this VOD thing"?

Do you not like the ability to watch any show from those available at any point with full DVD style controls?

I mean the limited number of shows. Although I do really like the VOD channels, it was implied before I signed up that there would be a lot more programmes available from other channels. Obviously, I realise now that it doesn't quite work like that
