Can you give us some help on what sort of thing is libellous?
Hi Neil
Obviously, I expect, the great majority of posters here do not want to embarass Digital Spy in any way, but when you delete postings because they are potentially libellous, it would be nice if you could remind us of what it is that is considered to be potentially libellous. I ask because I have no idea if any of my posts were deleted, and so I have no idea if it was me that said something wrong. This is not meant to be an attack, it's just a request for more information. Thanks. |

I believe I had repeated some things I read in the press. I shall avoid doing so in the future.
A point here is that the Big Brother forum is stuffed with wild allegations, why not this one? I presume the celebs are more likely to sue - I will be behaving from now on...Sorry Digi Spy... |

I think the Mods may also have taken exception to something I posted about a non-contestant.
As it happens IMHO my comments were both true and non-malicious but I appreciate their desire to stay on the windy side of the law! |

I would have thought that if you say something about someone that is not true or you have no evidence to back up thatis libelous. I'm not sure why you think the mods here are deleting your posts though? I've never know that to happen in the past.

See the "Aw poor Tara" thread - or rather what's left of it.

Libel is when you publish derogatory comments about someone without proof of your accusations. I think

I think as long as you make sure to point out that it is your own opinion, & not necessarily fact, you should be on the right side of the libel laws. Good words to use in this situation are 'allegedly' or 'alleged'....

I have been adding 'IMHO' to anything that I think could be libellous for some time on various talkboards. It seems to work so far!

Some lawyer did once tell me you could say or write pretty much anything, about anybody, so long as you bunged (phrase or words I can't remember) in first ie BEFORE you say or write anything.I have been adding 'IMHO' to anything that I think could be libellous for some time on various talkboards. It seems to work so far! Hmmm wish I could remember, pretty sure now it's not 'Without prejudice' tho. Sorry to anyone who gets sued after using that one.
