This is actually quite scary to me, but it is ten years since Gina G represented the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest with Ooh Aah Just A Little Bit. Wow! ten years, I remember when she first came out, she was massive, as was the song too which got to number 1.

Did anyone else like her and think it's freaky that it's been ten years since she first emerged on the music scene?

I can't say I did like her really, no!

The song (there was only one, right?) was a bit catchy though,

No believe it or not there was actually quite a few, though Ooh Aah Just A Little Bit was her most famous, her trademark song if you will!

Her others included

I Belong To You
Fresh!
Ti Amo
Every Time I Fall
Flashback

Appearing at a gay club near you...

She once played one of my University balls in the late 90s. I was right at the front for that one, lol. I loved her version of These Boots Are Made For Walking, but it never made it to release.

She wasn't exactly "massive" now was she?? There was some buzz about her at the time getting to No.1 with a EUROVISION song (and fair play to her). She had her 15 minutes of fame. She had a few lesser hits subsequently and then faded into relative obsecurity...

She was and still is massive indeed, isn't her song Fresh! used as the Big Brother theme tune?

Actually sorry to correct you but she actually was quite massive at that time. It might only have been for a few months but she was definitely very famous, I remember everyone at school always talking about her and the song Ooh Aah, to me that is a sign of being massive. Don't get me wrong within a year she had disappeared but she was quite big in 1996.

Suppose it depends on what your idea of "massive" is. I totally agree that she was "big" in 1996 and that "Ooh Aah" was a huge hit. But she never really came close to replicating that success. Personally, when I thinks of acts that I would descibe as being "massive" I'd think of people like U2, COLDPLAY, MADONNA, OASIS etc.

Point taken, she was big! That's a suitable description I agree!

I know I loved I Belong To You!

The cover of her debut album was quite cool too - Gina G covered completely in chocolate!

Just reading about the OOh Ahh, in this Eurovision book I've just got, and was surprised that it actually got to no 12 in the American charts, and nominated for a grammy.

She was on that Reborn In The USA prog recently, wasn't she?

Yeah she was!

I think Ooh Aah was eith the only or one of the few Eurovision songs to make it big in America and get nominated for a Grammy!
