pioneer 530 guideplus+ problems again
bajoxfy
13-03-2006
It is now about four months since getting our Pioneer 530H DVD recorder. At first the Guideplus+ worked a treat. However over the last month it downloads less and less. I have read posts on this subject with great interest, and taken the advice given as far as possible, but the problem remains. I have a Grundig Skybox. The equipment is connected by Scarts, but also the RF connections remain in place. This is so that analogue tv is an option if the DVD is recording.
Once I tried 'removing' the External Rec 1 reference and the whole week's programming downloaded - but only the channels 1 - 5, which are set to Tuner in the Editor. All other channels are set to External Rec.
Many of the 'specs' noted in other threads had Eurosport listed as host channel - and this is generally what I have used ( I tried 'Grundig' but found it next to useless). However I can't get this to appear in the Host Channel line in the GuidePlus+ System information page. What appears on this page is below:
Guide Plus+ version: 1.00/IR1.114
Country,PC,Host ID: Un/mypostcode/0011
Host Channel: Tuner/-/-
Status: IEF/0000/00/0001
Last download 13 Mar/13:58/121M
Next download 14 Mar/03:00/120M
Number of files: 364/0
External Receiver 1: AV2/L/GRUNDIG/
If anyone can understand why my machine is not downloading correctly from the above information I would be very grateful for a pointer in the right direction.
Thanks

Lots of people viewing but no answers. Have you tried logging the fault with Pioneer and seeing what they say?

Can you provide the following information:
- What type of Grundig box do you have?
- Do you ever see EPG in the front panel's display?
- Did you have an analogue feed attached to the antenna when you first installed GuidePlus?

I did phone Pioneer (twice) - first seemed to say problem was with Gemstar - not a Pioneer problem!
Second said Yes he had the same problem as well. I have been unable to find any email address for Gemstar!

- Grundig box is simply labelled 'Skydigibox' - was supplied by Sky directly. It works fine though.
- EPG appears without a problem - it does actually download, but only 1 days worth of programmes
- The analogue feed has been attached since before we had the DVD recorder - though I have disconnected it to see if it improved matters. It didn't, so I have now reconnected.
Why does my host channel say Tuner/-/- ? All references in earlier threads have suggested it should have Eurospt at the end - but I can't see how to make it do that - even though I set the Skybox to Eurosport.

My NTL cable STB doesn't transmit teletext signals, so I have to set my ITV channel on my Guide Plus to terrestial to get the listings. If I want to record off ITV I have to remember to change it back to L1/AV channel 103. Pain in the arse but there doesn't seem to be much I can do about it.

You should be able to set the ITV channel in GuidePlus channel setup to L1 103 and leave it permanently. The GuidePlus system should default to the Tuner automatically.

I have a similar setup with a Freeview box that does not provide any EPG data and have ITV1 in the channel list for L1 3, the GuidePlus system has had no problems finding EPG data on the tuner.

The manual says it should be set to Eurosport with an external box - which I have done - though I tried like you said. I decided it could be the Skybox at fault so borrowed a Panny Sky box - but it still won't download more than 1 days listings - or even less!
Thanks for trying to help anyway.

bajoxfy,

The GuidePlus system will search the analogue channels first before going to the external receiver. Therefore if you have an antenna feed connected to the tuner it will pick up ITV1 as the data carrying channel and not Eurosport.

If you really want to have Eurosport as your data carrier I would suggest that you reset the GuidePlus system and go through another setup process. However this time remove the analogue antenna from the tuner. You can always replace it after the data carrier has been found by the GuidePlus system.

GoodOmens,
I have a Pioneer 630 which used to get GuidePlus data from Eurosport via NTL. This no longer works so I connected an anlogue antenna to the DVD recorder and tuned into ITV analogue. However, the Pioneer still insists on trying to download the updates from Eurosport. Do you know how I can 'force' it to look at ITV? The host channel in the GP+ settings is Tuner/65521/ESPRT.

Hi RevDave,

Unfortunately, in your case, you cannot force GP+ to ITV. If you want to change to ITV, I would advise that you to change your postal code to anything and then back to your 'real' postal code.

This should mean that it picks ITV1, from the analogue antenna, as it data carrier. GP+ should then go back to ITV1 for future D/Ls.

BTW, do you know why do you not receive any data from NTL Eurosport anymore?

Thanks JethroUK for the info.

RevDave, you must have been getting data from another source. What is your current setup?

Do you have a Skybox?
Do you have the analogue tuner connected?
