Think I'm ready to go for the Topfield

The most disappointing thing is the Topfield hasn't come down in price much, probably as its always been state of the art.

The cheapest I've found is EmpireDirect at £242.82. Can anyone beat this?

The cheapest place to buy something isn't necessarily always the best. It's the guy who'll respond fastest and positively if something goes wrong that you want to be looking for.

When I had a problem with the HDD on mine it was swapped out and replaced with a new one faster than you can say, fish.

www.turbosat.com

You know it makes sense.

I think that is probably as good as you will get.

I managed to get mine last week for £240 delivered, but that was a managers discount (with a gold scart lead) as I was after a Silver but they only had Black Panther.

After a couple of emails, I was offered the discount and bit the bullet.

So far I am loving it. I don't think you will be dissapointed.

Totally agree with rhubarbe. Turbosat even tried to give me a new one when I had a problem even though I declined; (did not want to lose recordings). In fact they carried on offering a new Toppy even after they had fixed the problem!
I would go with them everytime but the price difference empire /turbosat is appreciable and I can see it would be a factor if price is important.

Oh no, he won't be disappointed. It's a great machine.

Purchased mine a couple of weeks ago from Tracsat after looking around. The delivery cost was included in the price. Very fast service I would use them again

They even kept the HDD out of my poorly machine while I transferred all of my recordings back from my PC to the HDD of the new machine - just in case something went wrong.

Also, if you're a keen eBayer, the amount of bubble wrap on anything you buy from Turbosat will keep you going for ages.

My Mrs R46 has stored all the bubble wrap; she says it will save on my funeral expenses and there is a hell of a lot of me to wrap.

Me too, m8, hell of a lot.

Depends. Is that for the 160GB or the 250GB version?

I'd assumed he meant the 160GB version.

I've ordered a 160Gb Silver Toppy from EmpireDirect, should be delivered today (fingers crossed whilst touching something wooden etc..) Price was a major factor for me though.

Anyone using scart leads from Richer Sounds? I'm looking at getting a double shielded cambridge audio premium scart and wondered if people thought they were worth the £20.

Try it with the scart that comes with it first and see if you are happy with that. I'd have thought most people would be.

Out of the loop, I got mine from Superfi. Very fast and efficieint and tracked all the way.

I got the 250 gb and have not regretted the extra...Just think of the price you paid for your first Video.

Ouch! Mind you, I was doing silly amounts of well-paid overtime at the time so it didn't hurt as much.

No it needs to be shielded, too much interference, I get a very faint ghosting moving across the screen, I am getting this with my LG RH7500 and with the new TopField \o/ regardless of which scart input I use on the TV.

OK, well I use QED Qunex. I think they were £40 each uch:

Ouch indeed. I think I'll try one of the Richers £20 jobbers and see if they sort out the interference problems

I actually use the supplied Scart without problem, but wandering around Homebase last night (as you do) I noticed they had a nice thick Scart there for £5.99 that claimed individual screening - might be worth a stab seeing as they have a good returns policy if you're not happy.

Looked nicer than the Toppy supplied one too, all nice and blue and sparkly (whoa' there Rhubarbe )

Mine are blue and sparkly, too, jon. But if you can get blue and sparkly for £5.99 I say go fo it!

Course, they clash with my bright yellow QED component leads but, hey.

I've bought two of the basic Cambridge Audio scarts from Richer Sounds for £10 each and found them perfectly OK.

I didn't have any crosstalk problems with the scart supplied with my Toppy, but it had a faulty connection, and one of the sound channels kept dropping out. (At first I blamed it on my new headphones and took those back for a replacement. )

What I would like to know what is the returns policy of the
Turbosat, Superfi and EmpireDirect and what are other users exeperiencies when one actually needs to return the box because it is faulty. Who pays for return postage?

If you are looking for maximum comfort level, go with Turbosat - you will not regret it.

I'm not so sure about that, guys. Don't expect much for £5.99, even if the lead has individually screening. I've also read some bad reports about leads in the mid-market. Having spent all that dosh on the best box, isn't £40 or so for a top quality lead that will last a more sensible route?

Hence buying from Richers, if the £20 lead isn't up to the job then the nice folks there will surely let me bring it back and buy a better one.
