probably a daft question but here goes.
Is it possible to connect the DVD player on my PC so I can watch it on my TV. If so how and where do I get the bits from ? Thanks |

You will need a graphics card with TV-out or better still a DVD decoder card which will give you DD5.1 and DTS sound. Available from any computer shop.

Yeah your best bet is to get an MPEG card which will have a video out, and an optical out, but in all honesty you are much better buying even the cheapest stand alone DVD player

DVD Player Instead
Believe me you'll be even better off with a DVD player.
Until PC software becomes more commonplace on DVD I can't see why anyone would want a DVD rom drive in the first place. Does anybody do the following..... Boot up a PC, run the DVD software and then sit on a swivel chair staring at a 15" or 17" monitor for two hours watching a widescreen DVD movie. I doubt it. |

DVDSender.com
We are working on a new concept called http://www.DVDsender.com This will certainly do what you want wirelessly but maybe the easyest way for now is to use a TV out card available from PC World or someone like http://www.cpc.co.uk and if you then need a wireless connection to your TV then take a look at the VS100 from AEI Security at http://www.videosender.co.uk

Region Settings
As I understood, it is better to use a DVD player in your PC because it overcomes the 'region' problem via software that otherwise prevents certain DVDs from being played that have been purchased outside the 'UK' region.
Any experts on this? |

A player like the Samsung 709 or 511 can be made region free via a handset hack.
To do it on a PC you need to flash the firmware on the DVD Drive and use a region selector for the software. Go for a player. |

[/b] I believe the opposite is true, all DVD ROM Drives sold within the last year or so are region locked (RPC2). Mine was, I found the way around it at http://www.7thzone.com. |

all pc dvd drives give u 5 chances to change the region before it is permanently locked
however u can easily wipe the firmware every 5 times or with many drives just once and then u have an rpc1 drive ![]() take a look here - http://www.firmware.com.bi/ |
