Doctor Who loses out to Bodies in RTS awards

Let's not be too downhearted, though. Awards were won by:

Lorraine Kelly
Weeds
Paul O'Grady

so it shows you how undiscerning the voters must have been!

Bodies was absolutely brilliant, why shouldnt it win?

Dr. Who is not without its awards, lets face it

I didn't say it shouldn't! I was merely pointing out that judging by some of the other winners, the awards were not necessarily made on the basis of quality.

Well, Bodies was a superb drama - Doctor Who can be proud to have been beaten by it.

Everyone wants to be recognised by their peers but what counts at the end of the day is what the viewing public thinks. It is what gets series recommissioned if the ratings/audience appreciation figures hold up!

Sorry, but what is 'Bodies'? If it's on satellite/cable I won't have been able to see it. If so, is it coming to terrestrial TV (if it has been on, I've just not been observant!).

You've missed two series, both aired first on BBC3, then repeated on BBC2

doesnt say much

Well, I'm glad Bodies got some recognition at last, it really deserves it. Dr Who was hyped massively after all, and given a primetime slot, but Bodies was hidden away at 9/10pm on a Saturday evening on BBC2/3. It's a real shame more people didn't get to see it. (I was a fan of both shows, by the way )

Shock, horror, Doctor Who didn't win anything. I'm just gearing up for another year of award shows and people telling me how fantastic it is. I'll be the judge of that, I don't need anybody else ramming comments like 'BBC's breakout hit' down my throat. Phew. Sorry, had to get that off my chest.

I hope you feel better for it!

Fear not there are still several award ceremonies due this year which I am sure Doctor Who will get some recognition.

If anything, there are too many awards ceremonies which dilute the 'serious' ones, imo.

True! Receiving a plastic award best used as doorstop from one of the glossy mags isn't the same as getting a BAFTA!

I think it's in poor taste that anyone should mention a doorstop to someone with my forum name.

As if I cared.

She is indeed and a villain again! Hope there are no doorstops within her grasp otherwise someone could end up buried under the TARDIS.

Apparently Greg Dyke, former DG of the BBC, was mystified that Bodies won over Doctor Who. He thinks Who should have won but the powers that be were afraid to vote for something as populist as the series is. He wants Who to win the BAFTA.

I think there's some stiff competition for Who there from the likes of Bleak House, but hopefully Who will get something.

Are the individual actors nominated in this one, or is it just the programmes themselves?

Hopefully, Chris and Billie will be recognised with a BAFTA. After their performances last year I doubt anyone could really say they didn't deserve it.

David Tennant isn't up for anything is he? Casanova? Hope he doesn't go up against Chris in the same category. As both would deserve to win for different reasons.

I thought he was great in Casanova and that it was the perfect thing to showcase David's talent (which, I rather suspect, was at least part of the plan.) Hopefully, the two "Doctors" won't be up against each other for the vote.

Would certainly be interesting to see how everyone felt about Chris and David going head to head but for different series.
