Right, I finally got Wanadoo Talk activated, after 2 weeks. (Activated in 24 hours my arse...), and am very happy with the call quality, much better than Skype, which I used first, and it sent me off VoIP a little.

Anyway, the only problem is, when someone dials me, my phone doesn't ring. The light on top of the Livebox flashes, but, alas, no ringer. I've checked the phone, and the ringer is turned on, and I've tried with a different phone, same result.

What can I do?

Not seeing the Wanadoo talk device, as I don't find their service anywhere near value for money, it looks like the phone you have connected is made specifically for UK only, and doesn't have the ringer circuit built in, so therefore requires an adaptor with this ring circuit.

Have you tried picking the phone up when it looks like the phone should be ringing.

How are the phones connected to the device?

Does the device have the UK BABT socket, or the USA RJ11?

If is is RJ11, then you may need an RJ11 to BABT adaptor with ring capacitor, such as http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop...ProductID=2370

Not seeing the device, it's a little difficult to say.

It's plugged into a BABT, but with a BABT to RJ11 adapter that Wanadoo sent. Obviously this doesn't have the ring capacitor.

It does sound like they are sending out the adaptors without the ring capacitor.

Do you have a DECT cordless phone you can test with it.

I don't, unfortunatly. I'll try and get one to test it with.

Worth a test, as these should have their own ring circuits, as they need to drive the cordless section separately.

Sounds like you have been unlucky in having 'designed for UK use' only phones, they do this as it can save a few pennies from each phone, not including the ring capacitor (+ resistor).

You could find other corded phones will work, if you do find other corded phones or the cordless phone works, I'd get onto Wanado and tell them they are not sending out the correct adaptors, and therefore their service is not fit for the purpose, they can either ship you at no charge the correct adaptors, or give you a partial refund on the item.

BTW, you wouldn't happen to know if this phone has a ring capacitor built in do you? I was looking into getting a cordless phone anyway.

DECT phones should be no problem, as they have to produce the ring themselves, and not rely on the power coming from the 'phone line' ring circuit, as the handset could be anywhere.

Just occassionaly you get some where the base station ringer is driven from the 'phone line' ring circuit and therefore only the handset rings.

Then you get some DECT phones where the base station doesn't ring anyway, only the handset as that was how it was designed.

Well, I rung Wanadoo last night to get another adapter, they said they'd send one out, and it arrived today, but I was out, so it's getting dropped off again tomorrow. Here's hoping!

(Mind you, I want an excuse to buy a cordless...)

You'd think they'd supply the right adaptors, they must know some people have 'designed for UK use only' phones.
