Why do they bother? it is hideous, and as bad as the nasty rug that Charlton Heston used to wear. I could always imagine him taking it off at night and giving it a saucer of milk.

Actor James Stewart went bald at 25 and wore toupees throughout his entire movie career.

However, you would never had known, as he wore the best studio toupees money could buy. Here's a few:

It was only when Stewart got older and began wearing his own toupees, things took a turn for the worst.

That's fascinating, I'd never have realised James Stewart was bald. Very impressive and natural-looking hairpieces.

When do you think he started wearing a hairpiece?

Looking through photos there is not even a hint of balding going on.

Why are mens toupees and wigs funny? We accept women wearing them all the time, Dolly and Joan Collins and loads of others.

Im trying to be logical and ask that question as I look through the pictures but have to admit Im really chuckling here. (Ive had a bad day at work today and really needed this thread!)

I've usually got a pretty good wigdar, and why would he buy one like that! More likely he knew he was due to do a few progs, so quickly plastered on a packet of Paul McC's greeny/red hair dye and thought, oh never mind the Worzel Gummage look is in right now! Shame, Cliff would look so much better as a silver fox!

When you're wearing a wig or toupee, all normal senses go out the window.

Delusion is the order of the day.

It's like some people, one I know who thinks he looks like Ben Affleck, when it reality he looks more like Nigel Farage.

Male pattern baldness is seen as an accepted part of ageing and attempts to disguise it as vain and silly, whereas female hair loss is less common and seen as almost tragic.

I'm just shocked that anyone would watch Sunday Brunch...

But you have a point about Olly Murs' hair. The fact that his (non-identical) twin brother is bald may be of relevance.

Are you sure about this? I'd never heard that Jimmy Stewart wore a wig whe he was younger and his hair looks real in most of those pictures. Was wig technology that advanced back then? Those are better looking toupees than you see now. Might the speculation about early baldness be wrong?

Very sure. Along with Ray Milland, Humphrey Bogart, Fred Astaire, etc.

Check out this pool scene from It's A Wonderful Life (1946). Jimmy's toupee falls off at 00:48.

Actually on the " pro challenge " it was very very clear it's his own head of hair. People like to make stuff like this up.

Kevin was seen doing the hard challenge for thirty seconds, yes slightly receding hairline, yes slightly thinner in the front middle, but you " wouldn't" see that with any hairpiece.
