Just read on ITV Teletext (Page 132) that Marc Warren from Hustle and Shirley Henderson from the Harry Potter movies and Bridget Jones are appearing in the new series..the episode that features Peter Kay as Victor Kennedy.

*edit: it is also on the official Doctor Who website

Thanks, BG.

The inclusion of those two should certainly raise interest in areas that perhaps Peter Kay couldn't.

These two have a good quality to them - the show's really attracting some acting talent now!

Personally, I'm expecting Peter Kay to be a revelation... or given his size, possibly a Slitheen!

I am quite excited by the casting of Shirley Henderson who is a a very good actress and Marc Warren is quite nice eye candy but having only seen him in Hustle I can't really assess how good his range is.

If he turns out to be a Slitheen he had better not fart the tune to that dreadful record!

Awww...but I want to see him march through London with the Doctor on one side and Rose on the other.

What have we started!

What does everyone think about Marc and Shirley being cast?
Mark.

Just so long as Marc doesn't try and con the Doctor into handing over his TARDIS keys, I reckon it's a good move

Didn't that happen in one of the Hartnell stories? Or am I thinking of him losing the Tardis in a bet in Marco Polo?

According to the reports both are playing goodies in this episode.

Interesting.

I wonder if it will be our first glimpse of a possible new companion?

Interesting! Would either commit to a long running series, especially as Marc is still in Hustle, unless this is the last run of it.

See also my message on the Billie leaving thread about possible companion!

I could actually see Marc playing a modern-day Ben, and I think that it would work if they had Marc and Shirley as new companions who outwardly couldn't stand each other but worked together because of the situations that travelling in the tardis created.

It could also shift that oft hinted-at sexual tension away from the Doctor and back onto the earthly companions.

Nice idea Den! Or to explore the kind of dynamic you described with existing characters. If and when Billie/Rose departs I think they need to move away from the cosy, closeness that she had with The Doctor. Be interesting to see what kind of relationship Jack has with Gwen in Torchwood as she could always cross over with him when he returns in seriis 3.

I wonder if his return may become a problem, now that the shooting schedule for Torchwood is happening so much later than originally planned.

Guess that will depend on when they intend to bring Capt Jack into Who in series 3 or if he will feature in the next Christmas special.

With the way things are shot these days I guess it's possible that Cap'n Jack could shoot a few scenes for Who whilst filming Torchwood, if they felt the need.

Marc Warren is excellent casting.
One of my favourite actors.

He's more than eye candy BG, he's been in lots of stuff and been excellent.
You might have even seen him in 'Band of Brothers'.

I remember him from when I first saw him on the first couple of series of 'The Vice' a few years ago.
I was shocked at how he left that series, it left me shaken. He was so good a character that his final scene brought tears to my eyes. A testament to how well he could get the viewers to connect with his character, and showed how capable he could be at moving them so powerfully.

He was great, and I'm sure he'll be as good on 'Doctor Who' as well.

For some reason I always get confused between Marc Warren and Paul Bettany.
They both have a similar look to them.
