This is usually the first sign that its time to say goodbye to your Philips recorder.
But be comforted that there are thousands of others who've been through it all before, and there's yet to be a Philips recorder where this does not occur within a year or so.
Now you can go and buy a Pioneer or Panasonic machine and forget about "disc errors" and other anomalies that Philips machines produce.
You could of course waste time seeing if Philips old guarantee extension still applies,or get a cd to upgrade the firmware, but its best to cut your losses and move onwards and upwards.

Philips and Mastercare-what a blissful combination.
If they won't let you upgrade to a reliable make, why not buy one while its away, then when it returns use it as a second recorder,or more reliably,an attractive doorstop

hi mongosito i take it mastercare/philips are terrible

Well,we all know Philips product is pretty bad,and although Mastercare seem much better than they used to be,I definitely would not send any goods for repair to them if I had a choice to go elsewhere.
Of course, guarantee repairs have to be done there

You should certainly get your machine repaired under guarantee.

If you have any more problems then there's a Philips forum over on CD Freaks (here), where you'll get helpful advice without people like phelings (whoops sorry... mongosito), spouting rubbish and making you dissatisfied with your purchase.

BTW MasterCare is just an umbrella organisation who sort out your repair. The actual work is done by a reputable company with a lot of experience in repairing Philips DVDRs. The repair shouldn't take longer than two weeks actually.

Unfortunately all repair shops have LOTS and LOTS of experience with Philips equipment.
The machine may even last a while once its back.
Rather than listen to the waffle you get of Musek and Jethro just have a look at the forums on here.
The Philips forum is full of threads regarding faulty gear, while the Panasonic/Pioneer forums are just asking questions about features and operational tips.
Not many Pioneer or Panasonic "my machines gone titsup" threads.
So,rather than listen to those who are stuck with Philips gear and don't learn their lesson you could do no better than buy a Pioneer or Panasonic recorder, preferably one with HDD.
Lots of editing features possible on -RW and RAM and HDD that Philips and DVD+ owners can only dream about. If you get a Panasonic you can even use any +R discs you have left.
Musek always says I talk rubbish buts thats because he won't admit he's wrong.
If the forums on this site alone won't convince you ,along with your own experience, simply do a Google search for Philips recorder problems, but be prepared for a long read

oh ok then i dont know has it was my first dvd recorder but i had a friend who had 1 and he asked mastercare if they could repair it and they couldnt
it was doing the same as mine is

It depends on how long the respective MasterCare policies last. Your friend's may have been beyond the cover period.

Standard Philips guarantee is for one year but they've sometimes extended it for DVDR70. If you've taken out the extended warranty then you'll have to have it processed through MasterCare. The actual work is probably done by ServiceCare, a different company contracted by Philips to do the repairs.

Well it might have been useful to say that rather than they couldn't fix it . What did they give him - another Philips?

Hello Buffy!!
im going through the same thing with my phillips dvd r 880

philips now wont repair them... they just write them off!!!

mine is out of guarantee... and was offered a new model but i had to pay £80 i said no thanks!!

you are perfectly within your rights to ask for a refund of the purchase price... as it was not fit for the purpose it was intended for!!

Phillips have admitted that they are faulty!!
there is a post on here that cam put up ... not sure where it is now tho!!

i would go down that route and not have any more phillips recorders!! mine is shocking

regards Phil
