We've seen 13 episodes with Christopher Eccleston, we've seen 1 episode with David Tennant, hardly seems far...
No its just that to get a fair comparison most fair minded people would require a bit more of DT to make up their minds
If you meant that, I'd have to pick secret option 3 (this topic is in the wrong forum, this should be in "Showbiz"). 
When the new "series 1" started, it was more than I could've hoped for. But, and like J-Lo it's a big but (I really must find a new line) see those last 20 odd minutes of TCI, David Tennant nailed it. And for me, at least, there was absolutely no doubt in my mind that this man was the Doctor.
However, it's a bit harsh to compare the two at such an early point in the proceedings.

Way too early to be thinking about this really.
I liked Ecclestone in Rose, but he annoyed me after that and is probably my least favourite Doctor Who bar none.
David Tennant, on the other hand, once he was allowed to do something, showed great promise. I hope David can keep up the same sort of promise that Eccleston displayed in "Rose" but then eluded him throughout the rest of the series.

After the awful cliché-driven Christmas Invasion, and seeing David Tennant hamming it up to excess in the recent Harry Potter movie, I'd probably be a lot happier if they just repeated season 1 and pretended it was season 2!

If you mean based purely on gut instinct...I have a preference for David Tennant.
Chris Eccleston did a generally good job.
A few dips in quality when he got too cheesey, but when he was good he was very good.
'Father's Day' was a highlight for him, and he performed some other great scenes throughout the series.
Saw Chris Eccleston in the film '28 Days Later' recently, which was shown on TV a few days ago. He played an Army commander who had gone insane (Like Colonel Kurtz) and he was excellent in that role.
My feelings are that David Tennant is going to be a great Doctor.
Good first episode gave me enough feel to feel very positive about him.
Seen David in one or two other things and I like his acting. More than able actor.

When it was announced that Ecclestone was going to be the Ninth Doctor, I thought "Fantastic!" - no really(!) - "He'll be brilliant in the role; his quirkiness and oddness in The Second Coming make him perfect for what we imagine the Doctor to be."
And Rose was broadcast and we thought "Yes!"
But as the series went on, I was less and less convinced...

Yes! A lot of the use of the word "WE" instead of the word "I".
"WE" didn't think anything like that. Or in fact "I" didn't.
"I" think all we will get from Tennant is humour and stupidity.
With Ecclestone in it, all my friends who are not the slightest bit into Si-Fi and would never consider watching something like Dr Who did watch it and were gob-smacked as apart from anything else, it was one of the best pieces of Drama that the BBC has done in a long time.
With this Buffoon Tennant taking over all the good credibility that Ecclestone built up will go down the pan.
We've had the best years of Dr Who - the greatest being last year.
One episode plus the graske and CiN thingies and I find DT's Doctor much more preferable than CE's, more Doctorish.

With Chris I always felt that he was just an actor playing a part and yes he played it well but with David and the edge he has you can actually believe he is The Doctor. Hope that makes sense.
There is no question for me - Chris Eccleston all the way.

Definitely Christopher Eccleston. I have never liked David Tennant and was so fed up when someone I dislike so much was picked to play the main role in one of my favourite TV programs. I know I should give him the benefit of the doubt, and I'm not saying I won't watch series 2, but I'm really not looking forward to it very much.
Christopher Eccleston for me as I love him as an actor and there's just something about him that makes me want to watch him in a show. I'm really not a fan of David Tennant as an actor.

I agree with Cuilean ( is that Scottish Gaelic by the way?), and could not have put it better myself, So that definitely makes it "WE" and not "I". Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but Cuilean's opinion is shared by at least one other person (and more I suspect) and so when "We" was included in the post I would imagine that was what was meant.
Personally I just hope the pessimistic prediction does not come true.

I quite like the fact that all of the actors taking the role play it differently - it is sort of the point after all, isn't it?
I have a feeling that this year could well topple last year in the quality stakes. RTD and co. have had a year to listen and learn from what was generally perceived to be bad with series one, and they'd be daft not to act on it.
Which bodes well for series two, don't you think?
I rewatched the X-Mas Invasion last night... Tennant is VERY good. Both are great actors, and CE really kick-started the new series, but DT seems much more... well... Dr Who to me.
David in Backpool and Casanova convinced me that he would be perfect for the role of the Doctor.
Watching the Christmas Invasion, I was convinced he was THE doctor.
I'm not a particular Eccleston fan although he played the role OK, I thought he over-acted (hammed) it up ... not to my taste
