Remembrance of the Daleks
Rose
Caves of Androzani
dubious1977
24-03-2006
1) The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances (It's the same story)
2) City Of Death
3) Genesis Of The Daleks

and an honoury mention for Kinda, Snakedance, The Deadly Assassin, The Daemons and the Talons of Weng Cheung.

And Dalek.

I could go on, but none of Colin Baker's would feature. It says it all that Sylvester McCoy was an improvement...

Yeah I like City of Death. I recently reacquainted myself with it on VHS from Ebay. I also like "Terror of the Zygons", "The Sontaran Experiment", and "The Horror of Fang Rock". I am not so sure about "Warrior's Gate" or "The Pirate Planet" though. Haven't seen either of them since the original broadcasts, so perhaps I should give them a second chance soon.
Is "Warrior's Gate" the one with "Kessler" from "Secret Army" in it and filmed in fog or against a white backdrop?
I seem to remember K9 being in a daft battle with a robot bat in "The Pirate Planet".

"Remembrance of the Daleks" was the story that finally persuaded me that Sylvester McCoy could play the part quite well if given some decent material, plus it was nice to have a good Dalek Story for a change.

ps I thought I was right about the Scottish Gaelic! Slainte!

Well I knew it could fly. A Parrot makes more sense given the "Pirate" theme.

Wargames was never a chore for me - I'll happily have it as one of my favourites. If nothing else, it gave us the first real insight into the Doctor's background.”

Nice to find someone else who likes PT - Scottish too like me

After seeing all of the Doctors, Patrick is perhaps my second favourite of the 'classic' seven, only to Big Tom. Just a shame that most of his stories are now lost.

Anyway: Top Five Stories
1. Pyramids of Mars
2. The Caves of Androzani
3. Genesis of the Daleks
4. Remembrance of the Daleks
5. Bad Wolf.

I would genuinely like to know the what appeals to you about the story if you would like to share.
I can remember going to the Dr Who Exhibition at Madame Tussauds, there was a Nimon exhibit there which I found quite frightening.

I liked "The Empty Child" too.
Your third choice, is it "Battlefield" or "Silver Nemesis"?
I did see it at the time but they were wilderness years for me and Doctor Who.”

Yes!!!! That was it!!! Silver Nemesis!!!!

Anyway, I like Horns of Nimon so much is because it's the first Doctor Who I ever saw, so it sort of has a special place in my heart!!!!

That's understandable then. Glad I was able to help with "Siver Nemesis".

Guess mine would be...

Hartnell: The Daleks
Troughton: The War Games
Pertwee: The Sea Devils
Baker: Pyramids of Mars/Terror of the Zygons/Deadly Assassin/Robots of Death/Talons of Weng-Chiang
Davison: Earthshock/Enlightenment/Caves
Baker:Mindwarp
McCoy: Ghost Light
Eccles cake: Dalek/Empty Child/Doctor Dances

Patrick Troughton is 'my Doctor, even if I did think it was Hartnell fot a lomg time. I hated PT at first.

Favourite story/stories?

I'll have to get back to you all.

Any list, though, will probably include:

'The War Games', and probably 'Thr Deadly Assassin', 'The Keeper of Traken' and 'Logolopos'.

Nice to see more people coming in for Troughton.
I mentioned WARGAMES. Can any one remember an episode with a good dalek called Omega, I think. Probably a lost series. As a young boy I was very taken with this. Most on this site seem to know more details than I - can someone help? Does it still exist?

That's quite a selection. I don't think I've ever sen "The Sea Devils" and that gets good press here, so I will be searching Ebay again! Tom Baker's early era seems to be his most popular. For Colin Baker I quite like "Terror of the Vervoids" it is claustrophobic which suits that type of story.
Unfortunately it features the worst companion ever.

"The Keeper of Traken" and "Logopolis" are two of my favourite stories from Tom Baker's late era, they are excellent. It was nice to see him so good again, to have good scripts again, and to have The Master back.

I wish I had seen more Troughton, as I have liked much of what I have seen. I liked "The Krotons" when it was shown in 1983. I like "The Tomb of the Cybermen". The one that I wish still existed is "The Abominable Snowmen", I have seen part of it (episode 2?) and it is some of my favourite Doctor Who I have ever seen. Not so keen on "The Dominators" or "the Space Pirates". "Wargames" is good but suffers from padding, in my view.
I am guessing here (I wasn't born when he was Dr Who) but could the good Dalek "Omega" that you refer to be one that featured in the story that told of the final destruction of the Daleks? (whichever one that was) In that story the Daleks were introduced to "the Human Factor" and this was their undoing. Given what you said about the Dalek being good it seems to fit, but it is a guess like I said. The only other Omega that I know is the one from "The Three Doctors", who as I am sure you know was neither good nor a Dalek.
I would also like to see "The Highlanders" given that my Clan led the Jacobite army.

I think Eric's referring to Evil of the daleks which also introduced Victoria and had the doctor introducing the human factor into three daleks?

If I was really forced to, I might even admit he was my outright favourite. That's no criticism of any of the others, it's just that I thought PT was such a fantastic character actor and certainly tops at bringing out the 'fun' side of the role.

For similar reasons, I'm looking forward to DT's portrayal..

Thanks to you and the Master. Is this also the one where Patrick Troughton pretends to be a dalek?

This would be a sort of favourite episode. However I did think Bad Wolf was fantastic. The second episode was not only chilling but very moving. i think as a single episode it is the best, despite the fact it was not PT. I am not a great fan of the later Tom Baker episodes - a bit hammy, although the regeneration to Peter Davison was good and had my son, then 3 very confused.
