Cuts: Dr Who omnibus on UK GOLD
Flat_Eric

Last week (or was it the week before) I taped "The Daemons" omnibus on UKTV GOLD. And - as I transfer it onto DVD in the background while I work - I've just noticed a whole chunk missing where episode 2 ends and epsiode 3 begins (where The Doctor and Jo enter the barrow and the daemon follows them in).

Immediately before the commercial break we see the daemon enter the barrow - and immediately afterwards he's very briefly seen staggering about with The Doctor pointing something at him. If you cut out the commercial break, the effect of the sudden chop is quite jarring and it's clear that there's a chunk of footage missing.

I can't help but wonder if it's normal for UK Gold to cut up (and cock up!) episodes like this - perhaps hoping that no-one would notice - or if maybe a bit of the film print was damaged and that's the reason.

Anyone else noticed cuts in UKTV Gold's Doctor Who omnibuses on a Sunday morning?

Don't watch Dr Who on UKGold (don't like ads at the best of times..but inserted randomly in BBC programmes!?!) so cannot comment on the editing...

But I suppose it is possible that editorial cuts have been made as it's broadcast at 6/7 in the morning when little kids could be watching.

I think it was just a cockup by UKTV Gold. Normally they have the commercial breaks where the ends of episodes fall plus one extra but they don't do it very well.

There's a whole thread about The Dæmons and why it should all have been in colour!

You'd really be better waiting for the DVD, though. The UKTV Gold transmissions frequently use poor quality tapes and there's always the permanent DOG, of course.

You're absolutely right of course Stuart, but until the DVD comes out (whenever that may be) it's better than nothing.

Quite true and it's certainly one of my favourite stories!

I enjoyed The Sea Devils today and I'll be recording The Mutants next week. I'm sure I must be wrong but I really can't remember seeing it all the way through before.

I missed The Silurians but apart from that I have transferred the remaining stories to dvd and have not noticed cuts on any of them, although I left the Daemons out because of the colour/B&W stupidity.
In fact,if anything,UK Gold often show part of the previous episode again after the break thus showing as much footage as possible.
I would put the Daemons mistake down to a simple editorial error.
Nice to see that UK Gold showed the 625 episodes of The Sea Devils where available rather than an all 525 run as BBC2 did once

they made cuts in claws of axos too - the action seemed to jump forward round the ad breaks

Strange that - from what I remember, they normally show them pretty much intact.

I wonder if there was a problem with the film?

Quite often the return from the break will actually jump back to the episode reprise so you actually get some footage twice,at least on the ones I record.
Both problems listed above relate to stories out on dvd or cocked up anyway,so I miss them out
