i am currently tranfering my old vhs tapes to dvd. i started recording but after 30 minutes the recording stops. could anyone give me any help?

E20 recording problem
I had a few problems with recording stopping after a 5 or 10 minutes (not 30 though) and the problem semed to be related to ensuring the disc sits correctly in the tray. I've had no problems since checking this before recording.
So far (3 weeks) I've used the E20 mainly for transferring VHS tapes to DVD and have been amazed that the output quality seems better than the source (how can that be?)
Anyway it's worth persevering.

Can you tell me the process for transferring VHS to DVD on the Es20 please, I've had mine for about 6 weeks now and am ready to get rid of the video but don't know where to start!

You need a connection between the output of your video recorder and an input on the ES20D.
You could connect a coax lead between RF out on the video and RF in on the ES20D, but that's the lowest quality option, and will need you to tune the ES20D to the video's RF output. Not a recommended option unless your video recorder only has an RF output.
Best is to make an AV connection between your video recorder's video output (this could be SCART or phono, depending on model), and one of the ES20D's video inputs. Normally AV2-4, since AV1 should be SCART'ed to your TV.
Then select the relevant AV input using Input Select on the remote, put a blank disk in the DVD, your treasured tape in the video, start the DVD recording with the REC key, and press play on your video.
Is that enough detail? If not, come back.

I'm assuming you have the VCR plugged into AV2 on the DVDR (this should be set to composite, if RGB this will be your problem).
You can set AV1 on the DVDR to RGB (for playing bought DVDs) and link this to the TV AV1 scart (will cope with composite from the VCR and RGB from a played DVD).
Test on a DVD-RAM until you have it working.

I wasn't sure what you meant by 'composite' but I found the setting for AV2 and changed it from RGB Video to Video and it worked fine first time.
Now I just need a few days to transfer all the stuff over
The term 'composite' is interchangeable with 'video' in this instance - it means a viedo stream where all the colours have been blended into one stream before sending down the cable.
RGB means that the 3 primary colours (red, green, blue) are send seperately and so giving a higher quality feed.
VCRs do not generate an RGB signal on their own and so you will get a problem on the DVDR input scart when you tell it to expect one.
You have corrected your problem, the next one you will get is when you start copying some prerecorded tapes that contain the macrovision copyright signal..............
