Only one nod for Doctor Who at BAFTAs

Surprise?

Not really. You have to look it at with an objective view and one could sense that BAFTA wouldn't be nominating Chris and Billie for their acting so the show's stuck in Best Drama Series.

A complete joke that Noel Edmonds bagged a nom for Best Entertainment Performance.

Actually yes, I am surprised that neither Chris or Billie got nominated for their acting ability.

I loved Bleak House, but am surprised that Denis Lawson got a nod over Christopher Eccleston...

I had thought that Billie might scrape one for Doctor Who and David Tennant for Casanova. But looking at the people nominated it is a fairly open and strong list this year. In years gone by it was always the same old faces (Sirs and Dames) that got nominated and won. Hopefully the Bafta's tv craft awards will be more fruitful for DW.

btw .. I agree with the comment about Noel Edmond's nomination for Deal or No Deal, it must be for the effort he puts into stretching an average 20 min programme into a tedious 45 min one.

Personally, I find all awards shows a bit of a farce, really. However, I'm pleased that DW has got a nomination (no "only" about it!) and I'm not too surprised that there are no best actor nominations for Chris or Billie.

Good point - we are rather spoilt these days!

But I still think CE deserved a nod - he produced some quite jarring performances - particularly in "Dalek".

Agreed - I think a nomination or two here is probable...

Erm - I can't see the nomination in the list...

Drama serial:

Bleak House (BBC One)
Fingersmith (BBC One)
Funland (BBC Three)
To The Ends Of The Earth (BBC Two)

They've missed off Drama Series - look at the Bafta link I posted above.

These seem worse than most. Half the nominations went to the pretentious quality shows that were so dull no one watched them - bleaker than bleak house the never ending and not very interesting story - and the other half to the shows that the powers that be provide for the plebs to watch like Eastenders, Noel edmonds or Jonathan Ross. Gongs for the luvvies providing for the elite and for those whp pander to the masses to keep the masses paying for the elite shows.

As with many award ceremonies, a huge amount depends on how long ago a series or film was shown.

Just after the series of Doctor Who, I would imagine that Doctor Who would have been up for more awards (and won a few of them) due to the hype that was around at the time.

Hype outside the industry wouldn't necessarily translate to those in the industry. Just because it sweeped all it could have won, going 3-for-3 at the National TV Awards mean a damn thing to anyone else.

Guess Dr Who fans could get revenge by voting en masse for the Pioneer award (a rumour's going 'round that it could go to Jamie's School Dinners! ).

Let's see how many genuinely hardcore Dr Who fans there are!

Where do you think hype comes from?

Hype isn't external to the industry....Hype is the industry.
The media industry creates the hype.

And that would make it a genuine victory then!

I think DW does deserve to win but want it to fairly and squarely rather than the loony element with their fingers on redial. We have seen man an awards ceremony and thought how the hell did that win but then when you realise it was a public vote then you get your answer.
