I have two more questions about the Panasonic DMR-ES20D:
1) I have a Samsung SE23R41B which has True Surround, however as it doesn't have a DTT, I loose the True Surround feature by using the Digifusion PVR200 (I only get Stereo). Do you know if I will be able to benefit from the True Surround from the TV with the Panasonic DMR-ES20D?
2) Is there any important feature missing from this machine and/or do you have any major criticism of it?
Thank you again.”

You're welcome. I'm flattered.
I don't know the TV, I'm afraid. As it's an analogue TV, I assume that the "True Surround" feature is some sort of processing applied to the broadcast stereo signal to give a surround sound effect. If so, then I'm a bit surprised that the machine won't do the same to any other input source. Are you sure there isn't some menu setting that needs adjusting?
But I don't think it'll treat material from the 20D any differently than that from the Digifusion, unless you can feed it with the digital audio output from the 20D.
I'm very happy with the 20D - it seems to do the job of recording analogue and DTT broadcasts very well. If I had a complaint, it's that it's specified as a recorder, not a player. It can be a bit awkward to access the more advanced features for playing back pre-recorded DVDs, like different camera angles, swapping between audio tracks, or jumping directly to chapter marks and timings.
But if what you actually want to do is put a DVD in the slot, sit back, crack open a beer and just watch the perishing film, you'll never notice the difference!
Most people here seem very happy with it for the price. Some problems have been reported, but nothing I'd lose any sleep over. Forums like this don't tend to attract the satisfied customers.........
