  • I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!
I Challenge the Producers to Disclose the Votes if they Dare!
Pedro
03-09-2002
The program opened last night with the buffoon with the normal forehead (wouldn't Ant & Dec make interesting egg cups BTW?) declaring that the "whole country" was voting.

Yeh right..................in your dreams Granada!

I was looking at a poll on another site yesterday and by the conclusion a massive 112 ppl had actually cast a vote!!!!!! Apathy or what??????????

Does anyone really care enough about this bunch of minor celebs to waste 25p on a phone call to keep em there or kick em out?

How about it producer's? Show us the figures so we can all see whats going on.

Mebbe thats a tall order since you would then have to commit to the overall sum of money which you will have to pay over to charity.

An increasingly cynical Pedro

I've voted more on this than I did on BB3.

Who gives a shit? 6 - 7 million people tune in... It's only one phone call... I'm sure they were getting plenty of votes. But Like I said... Who cares?

Excellent idea, Pedro. Put me down for a pair. I would so love to hit the little mutants over the head with a spoon every morning.

1 I don't believe these figures at all! In which case we have no idea whether the viewers are apathetic. I do know that this prog has a larger audience than BB judging by a straw poll at the office.

2 There will be more people voting, and more mature voters, because we know that at least some of this money is going to charity... that's my excuse!

I haven't voted and don't intend to - unless the final night has an 'interesting' choice.

can you fill us in on exactly how this figure of 112 was derived?

so out of 6-7 million people watching, you reckon 112 people voted? does that sound at all likely?

Sorry Iain, I should have made it clear that the poll I looked at was on a site linked to under the thread "Anyone found any online polls for the winner?" posted by dougaz. Check the thread and you'll find the links posted by Leprechaun.

Its just a straw poll of internet users much the same as the ones that were around during BB3. Please dont think that this is the actual number of ppl who telephoned the show. This is the very figure which I have challenged the producers to provide.

Mesotim WTG ole son...........it takes all sorts

gazza71 "Who Cares?" ......................... well I do actually and so should all those involved in the show including the charities and those who pick up the phone. Unless the figures are capable of verification and audit then it could be a complete scam. Wouldnt it be great to have a premium rate phone line which just says "Thank you for voting for so and so your vote has been recorded" With the right publicity you could retire in a few weeks. These things only fall apart if some one says ............hang on a minute.....................who, when, how many etc?

faequeen Agree with you 100% and I cant see any reason that anyone would want to vote until the last 2.

Cybele Your mutant cups are on the way.........we ran out of of spoons so I am enclosing miniature ice picks

So you are basing your theory that not a lot of people are voting on the fact that some website somewhere ran a poll and 112 people voted ..... not sure if there is a direct corralation there!

Do you really think that ITV would try and scam a charity? Why would they bother anyway , seeing as you are sure theres not that many votes going in anyway .

I would be very suprised if these figures are not verified independantly.

Hmmmm you seem to be putting words into my mouth my friend.

I did not state that there was any correlation between the straw poll and the actual vote. I merely used the straw poll as an example of apathy. If any correlation were to be drawn it would surely be with similar straw polls on the internet for other progs like BB3.

If I was sure about the figures I would not be asking for them.

I wish i had a pound for every time I heard someone say "no that cant be a scam they (the company involved) wouldnt do such a thing". Heh heh ask some of the world's biggest accountancy practices.

NOTE I am not suggesting that ITV are up to anything, merely saying that they should provide us with the voting figures if they are charging a premium.

I understand what you are saying , and i am sceptical as the next man about accountancy practices believe me. However i cant see the ITV risking their name for a few hundred thousand pounds ... this is a lot different to a few billion dollars which was the case in the US.[/b][/quote]

How would this safe guard against corruption? Surely the could just make up these figures to suit their post-siphoned donations?

Hold on , you said "lets have the figures to prevent corruption"

I say " even if u had figures they might be made up "

you say " exactly"

??????????
So you are now saying that even if they DO produce figures you will still not be convinced its on the level. So why call for them?

* BTW I know its not impossible for ITV to be on the fiddle , i am not that niave , however i would think its highly improbably given the relatively small amounts of money involved.

And more importantly, of course, ITV would stand to lose massively more than they would ever hope to gain - the ITC would impose a colossal fine and could even revoke Granada's franchise (it's an LWT production so it comes under Granada Media), and that's before you factor in negative public reaction.

The ITC always goes over anything to do with premium rate phone numbers and charities with a microscope; any whiff of foul play and the consequences would be too horrible for ITV to contemplate.

But I guess whispers of dark conspiracies are always far more entertaining than actually thinking through the potential repercussions and realising that it wouldn't be worth the effort...

Hmmmmmmm.......................... Chaz, I dont know on which thread you saw me say that. You seem to be reading my posts and then putting words into my mouth. It would be very foolish of me to make or imply any direct allegations of corruption hence my note.

What I am trying to put across to you is that any enterprise whether commercial, charitable or otherwise should be open to public scrutiny. I think you actually realise this so there is no need for me to labour the point.

The reason I have a bee in my bonnet about the votes is that they are a key part of the show. Since much of the show so far has been faked it seems quite reasonable to ask that evidence of some sort be produced regarding the size and disposition of the vote. If not how can we be sure that the 2 buffoons dont sit in camp off camera and ask the celebs who is pissed off and wants to be rthe next to leave. If thats the case then the votes dont really matter do they?

I am deeply suspiscious at the absence of voting figures on this programme since they are normally available on other progs of this type.

If its no big deal why not give us the figures?

GWR I respect your background as a professional within the television industry and you make some interesting and valid points. (For all I know you could be out there now as part of the team)

For my own part I have spent much of my career in a Regulatory
capacity (not the ITC) and I am well aware of what goes on behind closed doors. I too have had occasion to roll my eyes on many occasions

To cite a recent example of what can go wrong one need look no further than the "sudden collapse" of ITV Digital. I guess the microscopes weren't focussed on that particular debacle.

Your bottom line is particularly apt "whispers of dark conspiracies are far more entertaining etc" and if all these threads are doing is adding to the entertainment value of what even you must agree has been a particularly dull television show then thats all to the good.

Your ole mate,

If they come back tonite and say TB got 10% , TPT got 20% etc etc would you be happy?
I mean how can we be sure that the 2 buffoons dont sit in camp off camera and ask the celebs who is pissed off and wants to be rthe next to leave , then go and make up numbers to suit the occasion?

Chaz mate, we seem to be going in circles on this one. Your quote now is quite different to the one which you originally ascribed to me. Let just leave it at that.

Re your second point I haven't challenged them to supply percentages. I am simply asking for the figures. How hard is that? Someone must know them. Whats the big secret????
