It's always advisable to keep line rental with BT, as you end up paying for Caller Display with others where you can get it free from BT, if you go via (www.bt.com/btprivacy).

If this is a new line you have with BT (ie you had to pay around £100 to have it installed) then you can't switch line rental providers for 12 months, if it was a re-connection (connected free) then you must keep line rental with BT for 3 months.

You can the have just your calls routed by another supplier.

Primus 2 offers for FREE (no monthly fee) - free evening and weekend calls (up to 90 minutes at a time, just redial after 90 minutes to continue free).

If you want free calls 24/7 Primus offer this too:-

If you switch to Primus via www.uswitch.com they will pay you cash back of £15 per quarter for the first year. This reduces the monthly fee of £8.49 to £3.49 for inclusive 24/7 calls.

They have a "Penny Mobile" option you can ask for, this allows you to call
UK mobiles and get the rate of 20p for 20 mins, normal mobile rates apply after 20 minutes.

www.call18185.co.uk offer calls to Belgium for 0.5p per minute, once you sign up with these you can use all above services, but you can simply dial 18185 before your Belgium number, and the call will go via 18185 at 0.5p/min. This may be cheaper than paying £10 per month for calls to Belgium.

As you have broadband, you could use VoIP, www.voipstunt.com offer free calls to Belgium as well as the UK and other countries.
