Badly named file cannot be deleted.

I had a recording on my Toppy which I renamed to "Coldplay Live - Radio 1 : Maida Vale". When I tried to copy this file over to my PC using Altair it failed.

However, this did result in a 0kb file left on my hard drive, in the target folder used by Altair. This file cannot be deleted by Windows, either through Explorer, or from the command prompt. In Explorer, I get an error message along the lines of "Cannot be deleted: Cannot read from source file or disc"

It also happened with a file called "Oasis: Video Exclusive", so I believe it is due to the comma in the file name. Anybody else experienced this? How can I delete these files? I like to keep things tidy.

It's a colon; they're a reserved symbol in Windows. Have you tried using quotes? Or using a wildcard, from the command line, ie

del *.rec

or try typing the name in full, replacing the : with a ?, with the whole thing in quotes.

Nigel.

Sorry, I meant colon, not comma! The file on my PC isn't a .rec file, it is just a file. (I have file extensions turned on.)
